No idea where to put this... Nighttime nappies for 7kg baby leaky at night

I use pampers super dry for my 12 month old dd who is pump fed 400ml overnight. Her nappy is changed when she goes to bed at 7, then at 11 then and 3. Invariably when we get up at 6.30 ish everything is SOAKED right down to the mattress.

She tends to hold it in and then do one giant pee. I use a mattress pad over the sheet (sort of incontinence one) but her bag, clothes and comforter tend to be soggy.

What's the best nappy? She's only 7kg and I have tried loads but the sheer volume seems to be too much for the nappy to handle all at once...

Any ideas?

I used to put two nappies on DS1 who was very wet. I also had those plastic pants for cloth nappies, these work well over disposable nappies.

We found that huggies mainly suited ds2 best, though things would change as he grew and his shape changed as well as his weight.

We up sized as much as we could, then added a booster pad inside. To start with this was small washable nappy liners, but then we changed to cheap sanitary towels (peeled the plastic backing off so that the urine could soak through it and into the nappy). This method just increased the combined absorbency so that more wee could be accommodated.

Huggies is stopping production of all its normal nappies this spring see here, only going to be doing the swim nappies and pullups, so you may want to stock up!

Ooh I was just going to say my DS was like this EVERY night and we switched to Huggies in a size too big - problem solved. Hope your success continues!

Another vote here for putting a washable nappy (we use tots bots) over the top of the disposable. It's the only thing we've found that prevents leaks at night.

Update! Huggins Super Dry have come up trumps! This morning massive nappy but... No leaks! Hoping for similar tonight.

I agree, pampers baby dry (the green packet). Try the size she's just going to fit into weight wise, so at 7 kg put her in a size 4. Then put an extra one (maybe even a 4.5 but prob just another 4 at 7kg) or a pull up on top.

I also love the naty nappies, but for us they weren't quite as absorbent overnight for mammoth wees!

I don't think the brand matters as much as getting the size right and adding in one over the top. If desperation strikes you could always try an absorbent sanitary towel inside the nappy.

You could maybe try a cloth nappy + wrap over the normal nappy? My ds is 6.6 kg and little lamb nappies (size 1) with tots bots wrap works well for him :)

Wow. Loads of replies.

Yes she has a gastrostomy so have a continuous 8 hour feed overnight. Have jut gone out and basically bought all the nappies on the market and will test!

Also discovered adult incontinence sheet covers are cheaper than the baby ones (!) in Boots.

The problem is (I think) that she stores up all her pee then lets it go at once. God knows how big her bladder is

Last night I checked at 3am - dry. 6am - was like a biblical flood of pee. Baby and all bedclothes with sopping, nappy had practically burst.

Maybe a bigger nappy on top of her normal nappy.

Another thing we've found is if her vest is getting neat then nappies were more prone to leaks.

Nappies also leak when they are too big, myDD went from 4+ to size 4 recently because of leaking.

My middle dd used to store wee for through the night and end up saturated. I used to put on her normal nappy then a bigger one over it.

Try Naty ones, expensive but contain my dd's mega wees better than others. Aldi are good too.

Have you considered putting her in the babydry as currently, and then looking at a (much bigger) pullup or reusuable over the top?

So she's doing one big wee after 3am and before 6:30am. Could you move your 3am check to 4am? Or 5am?

Sorry - I thought pump fed meant expressed milk - didn't realise it was for medical reasons.

She will be being fed that amount as monitored by a Doctor/ Dietician. It would be really foolish for the OP to reduce her pump feed without consulting someone first. Her DD has it for a medical reason (and I am certain OP doesn't need telling that).

If she's pump fed am assuming it's for medical reasons so cutting down not an option? You could always try putting an incontinence pad eg tena into the nappy to boost it or alternatively using a nappy wrap for reusables over the top to contain the leaks.

400ml does seem a lot of milk. At 12 mo that is more milk then my two had all day. Does she eat well?
