Same thing recently happened to us! Just had a new kitchen fitted two weeks later the glass hood literally and for no obvious reason exploded, fortunately no one was in the kitchen at the time. The company who fitted the kitchen are fobbing us off so any advice would be welcome. Thanks.

hmm, what do we think of this from Neff customer liaison?? ...

Thank you for your e-mail concerning your Neff D8991N0GB extractor hood.

Initially I would like to express concern at the difficulties experienced
with your appliance and understand how disappointed you must be. Please
accept my apologies for the inconvenience caused.

I regret any distress caused due to the nature of the failure of this
appliance and wish to assure you that the details of this incident have been
recorded for both our senior management and the factory concerned.

I cannot stress how unusual this is. I have checked with our Technical
Department and we have no similar failure of this extractor type on record.
All of our appliances are designed and tested to comply with the prevailing
safety and performance criteria and in particular items containing glass are
stringently controlled. Impact or installation stress would be the
anticipated cause of failure. If a glass item received a knock during
transportation or fitting then it is possible for failure, in terms of
breakage, to happen during first or early usage due to delayed shock to the
glass. Our engineer has identified that the glass panel was in contact with
the wall where the extractor is installed and it is possible that pressure
from this led to the failure. The panel should not come into contact with
the wall and there is a warning which highlights this in the installation
instructions. We have no other explanation as we have no other failure on
record.

Our engineer is due to return on July 28th and I trust that following this
the products will be restored to full working order and that with time your
confidence will return. We are completing these repairs free of charge as a
gesture of goodwill as they are not technically covered by the warranty. In
view of the fitting issue highlighted by our engineer, if he is unable to
fit the new panel without it touching the wall then it may be necessary for
you to consult your fitter to arrange this.

I am sorry that you have had cause for concern in respect of this Neff
appliance and assure you this matter has received our full attention and
consideration.

Yours sincerely

Twig, those pictures make sobering viewing - thank goodness none of you were nearby when it happened.

(I can see how nice your kitchen is going to look, btw, if it's any consolation)

Hmmm, a large virtual vodka with a choc bar on the side will be fine .

DH did mention going into the office to water his plants this week so might be able to sort then for you if he has a pack in his desk (which is more like a junk cabinet!) Otherwise, if he has to get them from stores, it will be in a couple of weeks when they reopen after the hols.

Email me your address: antlxstew @ yahoo.co.uk (remove spaces).

Checked with DH by the way about screw covers - he said no problem getting them if you can't track any down.

ps - you might want to change the name on your photobox account.

They don't know what happened

they are coming back on Thursday with the glass and will fit it and see if it could have been an installation error (even if it was I don't think the stuff should have exploded).. I am not sure how exactly I feel about having another one in the house tbh

I called the assistant to the bloke who fitted the kitchen and told him to give him the opportunity to be here .. but he said he couldn't make it

will see what happens on wednesday
