Just wondering if there are any vets or knowledgeable dog owners out there. Our 12 year old mutt has always had a bit of a squitty tummy ever since we first got him (Battersea, 5 years ago) but as he gets older, it seems to be getting worse. Now if he eats ANYTHING apart from his dog food ie scraps from the table, bones he finds in the park etc he gets the squits. And what is worrying me is that there is a lot of jelly-like mucus in some of them. I am worried. Should we take him to the vet or is it normal for a dog that has a sensitive tummy?

Could be colitus. My pooch is like this onand off and gets tablets form the vet. Usually clears up quickly.

ive worked with dogs for 12 years and it definatly sounds like your old pup has a ,one sensitive tum.one of mine has suffered from this sice she was a baby & is on a strict lamb & rice diet it works wonders.if he still has the poops try starving him for 24 hrs & if it doesnt clear then take him to the vet for sure.whatever hes has eaten has caused his body to reject it and complely clear his bowel this is what is causing the mucus.so give this a try just make sure hes got plenty of fresh water!

Thanks for that Beth. Definitely think he is lactose intolerant, gave him a load of porridge that no one would eat and it was like something from your worst nightmare... I have re-posted this thread under 'pets' because I didn't realise mumsnet had one until after I wrote this! Might have more chance of dog people seeing it there.

My dog is like this on a regular basis. I decided ages ago that she has a delicate tummy, she can only tolerate 2 types of dry dog food, and dog biscuits. She can manage to eat a bit of carrot, bread/toast with no butter and apple. That's it, anything else and it's not pretty!!!!

It's just one of those things!!!LOL!!!!
