Anybody it there.....??????
So..... Almost a year after separation. Divorce now through and marital home under offer. I am seriously considering moving to Solihull.
I work in Birmingham and want a fresh start and to be loser to work.
I will be alone and I am not far from family and friends but it is still a new town and I don't know a soul!
I am nervous and excited....
Looking at a few properties later this week and could possibly be living ther by the summer ..... Eek

Im viewing several places this week.... Around Olton, Blossomfield and Shirley areas
Hoping they are okay. I just want to live amongst decent working people and feel safe on my own. I also can't wait to have a 15 ,I mute drive to work instead of alsmot an hour !!

Haha Yes i know lots of normal people live there, I lived not far from there.

However, there's a big proportion of 'richer than you'd and the houses near the town centre in particular warp your sense of normal!!!

Certain bits (well from my bar based experience!) Seem to be the preserve of men who drive company BMW/Audi and wear action slacks and TM Lewin shirts whilst loudly ordering bottles of prosecco for very fake blonde, fake nailed, fake tanned women.....other areas are just, well what I'd consider normal!!

Solihull is lovely but it's very much a bubble of wealth...

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha 😂 you should see my bank balance!

I'm in Elmdon. OK it's not the poshest part, but it's nice enough.

Avoid the Sheldon end of Olton. Closer to town centre, the better.

Avoid Chelmsley wood and Smith's Wood.

Olton you need to choose carefully. Without being too outing I taught in the area and lived there too. Generally the Dovehouse parade end is nicer than the Old Lode Lane/Hobs Moat end.

There's loads going on socially in Solihull. If you are into sport, the arts or whatever there's loads of societies etc.

Dickens Heath might be worth a look, as Monkspath too. The nearer end to town is walkable.

Widney Manor too.

soupy I can't afford those places now that aim on my own. I would like to know what areas to avoid in Solihull and if there is much going on for a single woman in her early 40's ?

I'm from Solihull (have moved down south now with work now) Touchwood has most of what you would needs with shops and bars.
There are some lovely villages around if you don't fancy being right in the centre- Dorridge, Knowledge, Hockley Heath, Earlswood or Henley in Arden (not in Solihull but still lovely!) a little further out.

I'm looking at a place in Olton on Thursday. I kind of want to be as close to centre of Solihull as possible as I'll be on my own and need to get out a meet people

Solihull is lovely but it's very much a bubble of wealth (& apathy).

Depends what you like. The shopping is fantastic, houses are expensive!

Nice place though, in particular the area around Tudor Grange park and knowle/Dorridge

My husband works in Birmingham and commutes from Warwickshire. We lived in Solihull for a decade, and we prefer the provincial life.
