Any other Open University mumsnetters?

Just wondering if anyone else is / has studied with the Open University. I've just started A103 (arts foundation course) and am about to apply to Summer School. I really want to go, but am not looking forward to being without dd for a whole week! And also not sure whether dh is up to looking after her alone for a whole week! Has anyone else been to a OU Summer School and survived? Love to hear from you.

I started an English Lit degree, got pregnant with DD1. Went back to it after a couple of years, did a little more, got pregnant with DD2 just as I started. Messed it up completely and really want to start again but not sure it's wise with DTs. I want to do the Shakespeare level 3. I love Shakespeare, but I think I ought to wait.

I am hoping to maybe train as a solicitor at the end of it. I like law, although it wasn't what I really wanted to do, but as I'm going to be living in London with four kids I have to think about a career that pays well.
It does seem like a very long slog, which is why I'm doing two at a time, as I will face another year or two at the end of it if I go onto Law college.
Do you have a career in mind?

Yes, Im looking to do a degree in English Lit.

I was also more interested in literature. try googling the names of paintings for information, I found some really helpful notes this way.

I'm doing a Law degree, now on my second year. I'm hoping to complete it in 3 years rather than the usual 6. Are you hoping to do a degree too?

I just looked at my essay and can see that if I apply your idea it would make so much more sense.

I love the variety too but I must admit I find parts harder than others and Im not so interested in paintings as I am poems.

Applying Rousseau to David's paintings? I did a tma on Rousseau and David, and dealt with them seperately. Then the similarity was in the way that the french people could relate to the ideas about illegitimate and legitimate power in both his writings, and in David's paintings.

Art was interesting for me, cos I don't particulary like it, and had never studied it before, but I found myself approaching it in the same way you would a piece of literature, and that got me decent marks!

It's an interesting course, I loved the variety in it!

Yes. Im really enjoying it but finding the whole Rosseau thing a bit complicated IYKWIM. Can understand his theories but how to apply it to paintings???? Im lost

i hated ed209 - loved dse212. the stats bits were scary to start with but easy once you got the hang of them. Am doing social psychology this year - its very scary!

Horseshoe, I did A103 last year, CAT me if I can help at all! I scored 73 or soemthing.
I also did W200. This year I'm doing DD100 and W201, which is going to be a nightmare with the twins on the way, but I started as soon as the books arrived and have got 3 tmas all ready to post off.

Yes I'm doing A103 now. Getting really stuck and not finding enough time to fit in between FT work and child rearing but i'm doing OK and really enjoying it.

Finished ED209 last year and starting DSE212. Anyone out there willing to share some light on DSE212, got my books and was horrified by all the software? (shock)

I graduataed in 1996.
WAs joking about the assignemnts although you are right it is helpful to look at how other people have approached esssays. WE have been sharing essays this year after the extension deadlines which I have found useful. God not really for infomation or knowledge but to see how other people word things and their writing style and essay construction.

What are you going to do next year? Are you heading for a psychology degree?

Ohh and I meant to say I was at Kings, London as well. I graduated in 2000 with a degree in Biomedical science. I wish I could re-do it as well.

nikkim you are welome to have my assigments if they will be off any help (as long as you don't plagerise them - I found looking at other people's helpful). Also have some revison giudes for ED209 which you can have if I pass!!!!

I'll bear that in mind about attending tutorials - didn't get to any this year.I've just joined the smartgroup for U210 and have spent most of the afternoon looking through the first class conference.Am already very worried about the exam - I have a problem remebering day to day stuff how will i ever memorize all that info??

susanmt my first degree was in theology - did it at Kings. Wish I could redo it really as I was too young and didn't put the work in. Got a 2:1 though. Are you doing any languages? I did a year of Greek and Hebrew all the way through.

I am now working towards a degree in psychology with the OU about to my exams for DSE212 and then ED209 next year. So any advice cazzycabs, if you are not snowed under by nappies and milk, feel free to pass it my way = or your assignments

Did dd100 last year which i enjoyed although it is quite a big jump to the next level in terms of workload.

Just spotted this. Yes, I did enjoy U210 BUT I never went to any tutorials, and never met my tutor - did it all isolation. In retrospect, think that was not the best idea. Would have preferred more linguistics - there are some but pretty skated over. Plus, some real crap about kids speech development - the bloke on the tape talking about how his daughter learnt teh word 'dadda' etc. I very much enjoyed pointing out in my essay that this was also one of my daughter's first words despite teh fact that she had never met her 'dadda'

I wish I'd had time to study it properly. But I did well in the course and in the exam despite thinking I'd failed completely so it's very do-able. If I get teh time and the inclination I wouldn't mind doing teh level 3 course to then get teh Diploma

I was thinking this morning of doing a short 3 month course from now to Jan. not because I'm a sucker for punishment but I'm a bit worried that if I stop my (almost non-existent) routinue I'll never get back in to the swing of it. The money is holding me back more than anything I'm in europe and we pay approx. 3x the UK fees.
