A verse or short poem for a memory box for my daughter

Hi everyone.

I am currently in the process of creating a memory box for my 10 year old daughter.

Without going in to the ins and outs I'm battling cancer for the second time, with not such a positive outcome this time :(

I am looking for a verse or a short poem to go inside the lid. I am not religious. Just want it to sum up how much I love her.

I'm hoping it won't be opened for a long time, but really feel the need to have it done, even thou its tearing me apart!

Thank you anyone that can help. It is very much appreciated.

So sorry for you. I love some of the links given, they are lovely, but (and I know this may/will sound crass) what are you aiming for? Is it deep & motivational or more a wry smile?

I couldn't just read and leave, this thread really touched me. My mum had a cancer scare last year and it petrified me, luckily everything was fine but that was my fear as a daughter. I cant imagine it as a parent. You sound like a strong woman and I'm sure a memory box will serve as a beautiful gift enabling her to look back on her upbringing etc. I don't know any poems I'm afraid but I do wish you the best of luck with finding one and dealing with your treatments x

I'm so sorry. I had a think and Carol Ann Duffy has a beautiful way of putting many things - this one, about watching a child sleep is very beautiful.

I volunteer as an oral historian in a hospice, recording stories and memories for people who are making memory boxes/CDs to give to their families and friends. I'd be happy to give you details - PM me if you'd like. Thinking of you.

I'm so sorry to hear that, and hope the eventual outcome is better than it now seems.

Would any of these suit?

A mother's love

www.poemhunter.com is another good place to look for poetry. If it's just an extract, then it could be there's some Donne or Masefield that would fit either.
