For what its worth it has to be something very very serious for immediate closure. Have known bad nurseries with 7 complaints relating to the same thing still be allowed to open. There will be an explanation once investigations have been carried out. Could try Ofsted helpline but doubt they will say until they have investigated. Their number is 0845 601 4772

Is there nothing on the Ofsted website?

I can imagine why people are upset but for it to be closed without notification there must have been something really serious wrong - the sort of thing that would stop most parents from sending their dc's there anyway.

I can imagine...is there no way then you could ask that branch what the issue is?

How awful for your friend. TBH I wouldn't want to go near another branch of a place that got closed. Has to be serious to take that action.

Is there no other places in the area?

It must have been dangerous. Maybe the kitchen was squalid or something?

must be something really quite serious for them to close it immediately - we have the care commission up here (scotland) who have the same powers as ofsted and they have rules and regulations that must followed when they want to close somewhere down - it may only be for a few days until the situation is resolved. though it's a real pain for childcare i'd think your friend should be happy that whatever the issue is, it's being dealt with.
