Plumber costs is this normal ?

Called in a plumber for boiler leak . He checked and said would need a part and get it next week as it's not urgent. Changed 80 quids for the visit. Next visit got the part which was for 40 quids and charged 111 quids . Does that sound about right ? We are new to this area but is that about the going rate ?

I recently paid £96 (£80 + vat) for an emergency call out, so sounds about right?

Yeah, sounds fairly normal I'm afraid. Everythings going up, including for the plumbers!

Yes unfortunately that's true . The plumber said every little helps and I knew he was charging a bit high on the part as I had previously seen the cost but didn't wanted to make him feel worse. Col is affecting everyone couldn't tell him though

It varies so much. I wanted a radiator taken off so i can paint behind it. One plumber wanted £200 and another said he'd do it for £50.

Yes that's so confusing. I had a water leaking from the main water tank . Plumber asked for 700 and messed it up further so had to change it he whole tank . We still had to pay that incompetent plumber 😭

Yes. Those prices sound reasonable.

He travelled to you, accessed the boiler and diagnosed the fault. That's what the first charge was for.

He then spent time sourcing the part, ordering the part, paying for the part and collecting the part from the stockists. That's why he charged more for the part than the basic face value cost.

He then travelled to you again and fitted the part, so you paid for his time for the second visit.

I work for a plumber. Our charges would actually be a bit higher than you paid.

Ahh I see! He lives locally probably that's why our charges seem lower compared to your. He is a really good chap and I like his work as he very good at it!

It's just that I am in the middle of moving jobs so we are fully dependent on dhs income and cof is rising so everything feels a bit overwhelming at the moment! Thank for your response 😊

@Gettingbysomehow

inguess it just depends how out if their way it is & how kind they're feeling.

i took mine off myself )to paint too). But in the meantime had an accident and can no longer lift wide objects (shoulder replaced) nor do the painting myself 🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️ so I'm going to have to get someone in to paint & hopefully they can help me lift them back on.

id pay £50, but not £200!!

A good plumber is worth his weight in gold, so hold on hard!!

if you have a Worcester boiler, their care plan is really worth it! £18 per month, really good repair terms & includes an annual service.

good luck with the job hunting!!
