Anyone know how to get cheap theatre tickets in London?

DH, DS age 13 and I are going to London first week in April and can't wait. We have booked Back to the Future which cost a fortune and I'm hoping to go and see another show but not decided which one yet. What's the best way to try and get last minute cheap seats? I've got the TodayTix app but I'm not entirely sure how it works. Do I just check this app for a show on the day? Or is there another way that might work?

Tkts is (as far as I know) the only not for profit/official booking agent. They have a booth in Leicester Square. If you look online the day before, you should see what offers they have on. Best to go early to get the good deals.

Also see if you can book the sky garden, free viewing platform in London :)

Thanks! I'll look into Tkts. And we went to the Sky Garden last Easter when we came to London. Loved it but think we'll think about other high buildings this year.
@wubwubwub I tried for lotteries on the todaytix app but I could only enter for two tickets unfortunately.

We managed to get lottery tickets after applying directly for Operation Mincemeat and Matilda. I think the seats were £25. Good seats in the stalls for both :)

Good to know @Howareu. I've applied for Operation Mincemeat lottery tickets now. I fancy Hadestwown but the tickets are sooo expensive. I'll try and see how to get cheaper tickets somehow.
