Recruitment for this product test is now closed.

We’re looking for 200 Mumsnet users with a child aged 12 or under to test Klearvol inhalation capsules, which provide essential oils for inhalation; delivering soothing natural inhalation vapours for day or night. Please note that this product is not suitable for babies under 3 months old.

Here’s what Klearvol have to say: “Imagine it’s 3am in the morning and you’re trying to soothe a ‘grouchy’ baby...Klearvol provides easy to use inhalation capsules for use from 3 months. Simply snip off the top of the capsule and squeeze the contents onto a handkerchief secured near by the cot or bed (but out of reach of the child). Based on 100% natural aromatic oils, Klearvol provides soothing natural vapours for inhalation day and night. Klearvol...your breathing, for a hug that lasts all night! Helps with parents with young babies/children who need support for a good night's sleep.”

Selected testers will receive a box of 10 capsules to test. Following testing the capsules, selected testers will need to give their feedback via a thread on Mumsnet and complete a short survey.

All testers who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £100 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

If you’re interested in taking part, please sign up here.

Thanks and good luck!

Is this a new product or a rebrand of Karvol?

So that's where Karvol went. Hmm

Is this Karvol?

@elephantskiss

I'm not sure I understand how to safely use them with a child. With a baby, it's easy to have something "nearby but out of reach", but with a child, generally anything near enough would be within reach. I could put it on top of a wardrobe out of reach, but I doubt it would be effective then! Am I being completely stupid? What do people do about this?

They are capsules that are cut open and applied to tissue/pillow.
Report
elephantskiss · 07/09/2020 11:24

@LeSquigh, it can't be on a pillow though as it says it has to be completely out of reach, hence wondering where I could put a cloth or tissue that's out of reach yet they can still smell it.

Report
LeSquigh · 07/09/2020 12:11

@elephantskiss Doesn’t it mean the capsules need to be out of reach rather than the vapour? These look exactly like Karvol which was put in my pillow as a child. I loved the smell!

Report
LeSquigh · 07/09/2020 12:13

@elephantskiss Yes, the Amazon description advises putting on a tissue.

Report
elephantskiss · 07/09/2020 12:20

@LeSquigh I expect that's what a lot of people do, but it's not what the instructions say. I assume it would cause problems if it got into children's eyes, etc. On the Klearvol homepage, it says you put it on a cloth/tissue then secure that cloth completely out of reach of children, which is what I find strange, as if it's unsafe to be near them then they just won't get any benefit from it.

Is this a rebrand of Karvol? I used to have Karvol at night as a child! Loved the smell of it! Have signed up

I used to you karvol until they took them off the market for myself.
I'd love to try these on myself as an adult I get very congested and miss using Karvol to get a better sleep.

Hi @SkepticalCat, @Bravefarts, @AriettyHomily, @thenightsky, @mammmamia and @FlowerTink,

Klearvol have asked us to pass on the following comment: "Klearvol is the same formulation as Karvol, minus an ingredient that we took out, as we wanted it to be as natural as possible. The formulation is based on 100% natural essential oils of pine, thymol and menthol."

Hopefully that clarifies it! Smile

Hi @elephantskiss,

Thanks for raising this with us. Klearvol have asked us to pass on the following comment: "The easiest way is to use the Klearvol inhalation capsules is to snip the top off the contents and sprinkle them on a damp muslin and drape that over a warm radiator so the vapour disperse into the air. Alternatively, place in a diffuser if you have one, or if you can sit with the child, place in a pint of hot water and inhale."

Would love to test these please! Used to love Karvol when I was small - that smell!!

Report
elephantskiss · 09/09/2020 14:55

@LucyBMumsnet Thank you! I couldn't trust my 3 year old not to take it off the radiator and rub it in her eyes or something Grin so getting a diffuser sounds like the best plan (I've been wanting one anyway).

@elephantskiss, I have clipped my tissue on to the back of the headboard. They can't get their hands down there and if they pull the clip off, the tissue falls down. I think it should still be close enough to help them.

The Klearvol info seems very vague on what it's for and what it will do. It just says it's soothing. Until I read on the thread that people are using it for stuffy noses, I thought it was something to help children sleep or some kind of human Feliway equivalent. Oh well, they do have colds/coughs, so it's actually good timing. I will try it out at nap/rest time, I think.
