This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnet users to who tested the Explore Learning tuition centres and their service. This service test was open at all UK MNers who had a child aged 5-14 who were interested in maths & English tuition for their child.

Here is what the testers received:

  • 4 free sessions in maths and english
  • The first session was an initial chat with both the parent and child to establish the child’s levels.
  • The next 3 sessions were held on a drop in basis over the the course of a 4 week period (maximum 2 per week).

Here’s what Explore Learning have to say: “Since 2001 Explore Learning has helped over 200,000 children have excelled academically, reached their potential and achieved the best possible results. Our national network of 140 maths and English tuition centres support children in progressing academically, but more than that we inspire fearless learners: children who are brave, determined and excited for their next steps. Whether it’s getting ready to start a new school, meet a new teacher or make friends - we ensure children have the confidence and self-belief to tackle anything.”

Testers please answer the following questions:
  • Which centre did you attend?
  • Overall how satisfied were you with the tuition centre and service?
  • What did you like most about the service/centres?
  • How did your child find the centres? Do you think it helped them?
  • Is there anything you feel could be improved?
  • Would you recommend Explore Learning tuition centres to a friend or family member?

All testers who leave their feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Which centre did you attend? Burnley

  • Overall how satisfied were you with the tuition centre and service? Very satisfied. However we mainly need help with writing and spelling so not sure how much use it is.

  • What did you like most about the service/centres? Plenty of facilities, didnt seem too busy when we went.

  • How did your child find the centres? Do you think it helped them? Loved them!

Really seemed to build his confidence.

  • Is there anything you feel could be improved? Non screen based learning. It's hard enough to get him to write and it would help if this was built in.

  • Would you recommend Explore Learning tuition centres to a friend or family member? Yes

  • Which centre did you attend?

Shirley
  • Overall how satisfied were you with the tuition centre and service?

Very satisfied. Staff members were very positive and encouraging for both child and parents. Izzy the director for Shirley was very positive and connected well with my child. I can see all the staff have a very child friendly positive attitude, which is refreshing to see.
  • What did you like most about the service/centres?

I liked the ease of being able to pop in at any time/flexibility.
The club which offered the extra activities whilst waiting.
The reward cards for children.
Positive happy staff.

  • How did your child find the centres? Do you think it helped them?

Yes, my daughter enjoyed it and would be happy to come back.
  • Is there anything you feel could be improved?

Although I know the adults are helping and answering the children’s questions if they are struggling, one to one would be better.
  • Would you recommend Explore Learning tuition centres to a friend or family member?

Yes I have already mentioned this and how good the Shirley centre is.
Cost is the biggest factor for me however I do feel it’s worth the money.

  • Which centre did you attend? crawley
  • Overall how satisfied were you with the tuition centre and service? Just an aberage experience for us.
  • What did you like most about the service/centres? The IT provision, clean and bright
  • How did your child find the centres? Interested but he is capable

Do you think it helped them? We only used two sessions - not in that time
  • Is there anything you feel could be improved? My son is 10, bright, state school. Attempting 11+ as sports scholarship an option. When clear we were too close to being able to use 11+ prep plan they offer, rep suggested the secondaryschool plan. No one has followed up why we didnt get back or to discuss this more. Seems we were written off as not in immediate market for buying in.
  • Would you recommend Explore Learning tuition centres to a friend or family member? No, as sales pitch too intense then disregarded us. If your child is capable, use apps at home instead on top of traditional learning. Very expensive.
