Si and Dave last joined us back in 2012 and they're back at MNHQ this Thursday (16 Jan) between 1.45 and 2.45 pm to answer your questions. Since their last visit they've shed a few pounds between them - and furthermore managed to keep the weight off. The secret of their success has been shared in their book, The Hairy Bikers Eat for Life and this month they have launched their very own Hairy Bikers diet club.

Everyone who joins the chat on Thursday or posts a question to the Bikers in advance will be entered into a draw to win a copy of the book and a month's free membership in their club.

Hi Si and Dave. I was looking through your diet book only yesterday and was in two minds as to whether to buy it. I'm diabetic (T2) and wasn't sure if all the recipes in there were suitable for those watching their carb intake. I'm hoping so as the recipes I saw looked fab and I'd love to try them out.

On the subject of books, are you bringing a further recipe book out in the future? Could I ask for a few more desert recipes if so? Smile Oh, and possibly some party or occasion food? Sorry, not asking for much am I? Wink

Most of the recipes are very very useful if you need to cut down on sugars. The good thing is if you lose weight it’s going to help your type 2 diabetes no end. We would love to bring out some more books if people are going to buy them and we’ll work on more dessert recipes, but we have to watch the sugars! Just to say, have you tried using agave syrup – it’s great and doesn’t do any harm. Keep a look out in the diet club for more recipes.

@flatbellyfella

Hi Si & Dave, lets get away from food talk, as I worked the last 13 years in a Hospital Patients kitchen. As a life long biker,like you two, once it's in your blood you are as one, with bikers everywhere you go, Do you agree? Could you give me a rundown of bikes you have both loved & not loved? My all time favourite I have owned, was a Dunstall 650 SS Norton. Safe riding boys.

Another Question , Will you be in the Isle of Man in TT week ?
Brew Cake

My wife won't let me go to the TT since I broke both my arms when I came off! My favourite bike is the KTM 990 Adventurer, which I bought after we finished filming Hairy Bikers Bakation. My favourite bike I've ever had was a very rare Heskith – there's no such thing as a bad bike! Although Korean choppers leave a lot to be desired... Ride safe, Dave x

Hi. My husband and I are massive fans of yours - I always say that I have never had a Hairy Bikers recipe go wrong, and I have made LOTS.

We watched you in Argentina on an old episode we'd recorded last night (as I said, we're huge fans) which looked amazing. My question is which is your favourite place that you have visited to cook - both for the biking and the cooking?

oh, your diet paprika chicken is a family favourite here!

nice to find some recipes that fit in with our family allergies!

have you got a recipe for a egg/nut/milk free cake pls?

If you like that, have you tried our paprika cooking sauce? It’s brilliant, it’s just what’s in the recipe but we’ve done the graft.
Will have to do a bit more investigation for the cake-free cake. Love Dave xx

No questions - just wanted to say a MASSIVE (arf) congratulations on your weight loss. Thoroughly enjoyed watching the show about it and have your first book.

I am on a huge weight loss journey and taking the very first steps: I've lost 9lbs so far (only 10 more stone to go - yes really!)

Thanks for the great food; who knew leeks work just like pasta sheets!!

Oh, I've thought of a question: HOW did you figure the substitutes out? Wherever did the idea of using leeks instead of pasta even come from! I am not creative enough, I don't think...

Huge congratulations on your first steps to a new you! As you may or may not know, have a look at //www.hairybikersdietclub.com as we've set up a Dieter's Club with all the tools to help you lose weight - we've even got a special offer via Mumsnet: if you and a friend diet together for three months with the club, you get a 45% discount. Dave and I found it incredibly helpful to have the support of one another while embarking our weight loss journey.

The very, very best of luck. If we can do it, you can!

Lots of love, Si x

No questions, but love the books. Highly recommended and for the person who asked about low carbing, they're pretty good for low (but not zero)carb recipes - loads of handy hints for veggie substitutes for potatoes/rice/pasta/pastry and really useable hints if only one of the family is dieting.

Thanks very much for your support. It’s true – the books are a guide and you’re obviously welcome to use them and to change them to suit your own diet.

Love what you both do. Thanks for the great Germany episode too of oyur European series.

In your opinion what is the next culinary 'fashion' going to be? And if you could only eat one national cuisine, what would it be? (English/Scottish/Welsh/Irish are all disqualified!)

Last year we had the Peruvian food fashion.

I would like it to be Austrian as their patisserie is incomparable and fits in with the whole resurrection of baking.

What do you think?

I predict the next culinary fashion will be Korean, especially their KFC (Korean fried chicken!). I could live forever on Thai food. And of course, Austrians kind of invented baking. The wonderful thing is in our country, we get the best food from all over the world. Love Dave x

@ControlGeek

Hi Si and Dave, you've both done amazingly well on your weight loss and keeping it off. Obviously you've had to think long and hard about what recipes would help you lose weight. How did you go about making sure you still packed in loads of flavour, especially for the fakeaways, given the reduced fat content?

PS MrGeek and I have been fans of yours for years and he is going to be SOOOOOOO jealous when I tell him about this webchat! Grin

The thing to remember is that there are no calories in flavour, and as passionate cooks, we worked hard to keep lots of flavour but less fat in the recipes. On the subject of the Fakeaways, later in the year, we’re going to bring out some Fakeaway cooking sauces – same ingredients as the recipes but the hassles done for you. Many thanks, Dave x

Thailand comes pretty close to the top, although we've had some wonderful experiences. Thailand is as big as France, and the food is as varied and regional as France. Believe me, the motorcycle ride from Bangkok to the North is heaven on earth. Dave x

@DulcetMoans

How exciting! To echo most o these comments, also love you guys and the books. Have lost 5stone and still another one to go but did damage over December so will take longer than Id like.

Anyway, I would ask about lunches when working. A lot of your lunches, whilst looking delish, aren't suitable for an office as there isn't the proper equipment to prepare or store. We have microwaves and a fridge and a kettle - what can I have that is more exciting than a ham sandwich?

The key to eating healthily is to plan it. There are numerous recipes that Dave and I have designed in both Hairy Dieters books that you can prep the night before and take to work. They are quick, simple and really tasty. It may take a little bit more work - but don't forget you're investing in yourself and a new you. So really, it's gotta be worth the effort - hasn't it?

Lots of Love, Si x

@Gileswithachainsaw

Hello Si and Dave :)

I love watching you guys on tv!

My question is- I really get bored of doing the same stuff with potatoes. The usual wedges or roasties or mash.

Have you got an interesting and tasty potato recipe? I apologise if this makes it difficult but please , one with no cream or cheese or milk.

Thank you :)

Yes! I love hedgehog potatoes. You know the ones where you cut loads of slits on the top, roast it in duck fat, and wherever you get a slit it opens up like a hedgehog's back and goes crispy. It's old-fashioned and a bit naff but they're lovely.

Helloo!

So I love everything you do! Every recipe I've ever made from your books have all worked...not that they wouldn't but I find they are simple to follow and everything tastes amazing unlike some of my attempts at recipes from other books!

I do a lot of baking and try all sorts of new things with my kids for lunch, dinner and dessert but I've always found breakfast a bit boring! I flit between cereal and toast with the occasional bagel never anything too exciting. I was wondering if you had any ideas that could make breakfast time a bit more interesting that is also quick and simple?

Well done with the weight loss! You've still got a long way to go, but take heart. A mate of ours has just lost 15 stone in one year. 33 stone to 18 in 12 months, it's changed his life! We have lots of mad ideas for food - most don't work, but those that do (like the leeks!) can become family favourites. The ideas come by sitting down and experimenting. Try the leek dish with courgettes - comes out a bit like moussaka. Good luck! Dave x

I also would like to see a vegetarian version of The Hairy Dieters book.
I cooked Spicy Bean and Vegetable Stew from your book and replaced creme fraiche for Coconut cream. It was fab!

I am sure you have enough up your sleeve to make it happen this year :)

Well - you gorgeous individual - the low-calorie sauces that we have on the marketplace at present are almost all vegetarian. So, instead of adding the meat protein to the sauces, add vegetables or a vegetarian substitute instead.
