What shall I do with DDs placenta?

It has been in the freezer for a year now and I am starting to feel too proud of it to plant it and allow it to rot.
I dont suppose I can make it into something? I guess a necklace/bracelet wouldnt work.
Or maybe she would like it when she is 18?
Will it be alright in the freezer next to food for the next 17y?
I am afraid I am being serious - its such a special thing!

i know this is an old thread (have been reading the classics) i felt i have to say 3breats eating placenta is no different to biting your nails , does this mean if i was hungry i could bite lumps out of my arm? or if i had an organ removed i should eat that too? frame it perhaps?

I have confession . . . in NZ it's a Maori tradition to bury the placenta under a tree. Only I kept forgetting and would sometime have to rummage in the placenta buckets and take out what I thought was the right one.

So are you sure it's yours in the freezer??

You can have your placenta encapsulated and turned into more palatable tablet form - supposed to help your lactation get going, though you may have left it a bit late.

(oh and my friend says that you can keep the tablets to help you through the menopause)

I have met quite a few parents who have kept their baby's cord stump when it fell off . . .one for the keepsake box!

Wow there are some seriously unimaginative and negative people on this forum.

What gives anyone the right to criticise someone's decision to keep their placenta? Get a life, dull people.

We've kept ours and when I've got the energy I'm gonna dig a deep hole in the garden and plant a tree on top of it.

It does have a touch of 'je ne sais quois' about it and comes with a built in thingy that sticks out the top of a beret.

OP - what about a nice homeopathic remedy? You only need one millionth of a part to an ocean of water so could keep a sliver and lob the rest.

Or rehydrate it and make slippers?

Ah yes Swan, of course. But a nice afterbirth beret might placent-er!

Stomach for bagpipes, Bewler. Daughter would probably feel a bit gutted though....

Report
Bewler · 17/06/2010 16:41

Burying it surely entails risk of next door's cat/opportunistic fox digging it up and depositing it half chewed on your door step!

Make it into a stylish beret?

Bagpipes?

Too far...?

Pickle it in a jar.

Tie a ribbon around it for her 18th.

3breasts.. Eating you own placenta is no worse than biting your nails, but eating someone elses? I definitely wouldn't bite someone elses nails!

I'm genuinely shocked. Those food links are awful... FWIW, I kinda like the idea of planting something in a pot with it, so that if you move it can go with you.

If my mother had handed me my own placenta on my 18th birthday, put it this way, we wouldn't have been talking for a long time and my 18th was only 2 years ago! Don't do it!

hang on a minute

isn't it cannabilism to eat your own placenta? Is it even legal?

rastababi · 16/06/2010 21:10

Yes SoupDragon I did. Only the small bit of the sack that was over her face, it's still in the press.

Apparently back in the old days they would sell them to sailors for large amounts of money, as it was believed that caulbearers were unable to drown and they represented good luck. And no, I'm not planning on selling it to a sailor before you ask.

Dig a big hole, put Placenta in hole, add some compost, and plant a rose on top for her. Do not give it to her on her 18th birthday. Really. She will not thank you.

50 ways to dispose of a placenta:

The problem is all inside your head, she said to me
The answer is easy if you take it logically
I'd like to help you in your struggle you mentla
There must be fifty ways to leave your Placenta

She said it's really not my habit to intrude
Furthermore I hope my meaning won't be lost or misconstrued
So I repeat myself, at the risk of being crude
There must be fifty ways to leave your placenta, fifty ways to leave your placenta

Chorus:
Just stick it in the bin, Jim, stick in a stew, Hugh,
Get rid of the placentaaaaa, just listen to me
defrost it from the deep freeze, You can do it with great ease,
Get rid of the organ, and get yourself free

She said it grieves me so to get rid of this thing,
I wish there was something I could do to make you think it doesn't ming,
I said, I appreciate that, then would you please explain about the placenta frozen in your freezer?

She said, why don't we both just sleep on it tonight
And I believe, in the morning you'll begin to see the light
And then she posted a thread on mumsnet and I knew that she was right,
There must be fifty ways to leave your placenta, fifty ways to leave your placenta....

Chorus:
Just stick it in the bin, Jim, stick in a stew, Hugh,
Get rid of the placentaaaaa, just listen to me
defrost it from the deep freeze, You can do it with great ease,
Get rid of the organ, and get yourself free
