Was on a train yesterday and a woman got on with a penguin!

Sat on the train and a woman comes racing up with a bundle under her arm. Sits down with this thing wrapped in a jumper which is sort of growling and hissing. The guard comes over for her money and she tells him she's got a penguin and she's taking it to the zoo which is at the next stop.

Guard looks a bit closer at the bird and points out that its a guillimot not a penguin. I'm now wetting myself with laughter. The woman asks the guard if the guillimot would have escaped from the zoo. The guard tells her its a wild bird and to go and put it back on the beach. She'd tied it's beak up and everything with a shoelace!!!!

I hope the poor bird is OK after been scooped up by a barmy OAP but it was so funny. Grin

Nice to see that people still remember this fondly. Still gives me the giggles.

Many years ago my DF caught a flamingo in a supermarket car park that had escaped from the zoo next door.

On every 'what's your favourite MN thread' thread I say this one. So now I'm writing on it so it appears on my 'threads you're on' tab. I'm in awe of your turn of phrase OP. Well done Smile

Haha reminds me of the time I was walking round in TKMaxx when I saw a woman pushing a shopping trolley in which sat a parrot. Now I know they sell some odd things from time to time and this parrot was very realistic and most beautiful, I thought I’d take a closer look and enquire after its price. No sooner than I had wandered close to the trolley containing the stuffed parrot and lent in for a closer look, than the bloody thing went for me. Oh ees me pet luv, probly fawt yous gonna nick me bag, and off she tootled, without a second thought as if it was the most normal of things.

This is brilliant. We have a holiday home in Flamborough, and I am now going to spend my time riding the land train looking for penguins. 😂

@VivaLeBeaver Yep would've been North beach. That's our nearest beach to sewerby park where the penguin enclosure and zoo is and where the land train runs from as well. We've Plenty of bat shit people in Bridlington!! 🤣

I thought of this thread today and laughed all over again! A woman got on the bus with a real penguin!!!

Ok so it was a cuddly toy, but still, it was definitely a penguin and not a guillemot [cgrin]
