Recurrent miscarriage and Gluten

Hi there

Have read twice this week, in different publications, that there is a link between recurrent miscarriage and gluten.

Doe anyone have stories of this or any further info??

I have had 3 miscarriages and the tests have came back normal.

Eating out is tricky - we don't go much any more! However, there are some places that cater for it, some which you can work round, and some which are a complete waste of time! Curry is usually fine as long as you avoid naan bread - the curry is generally made with non-wheat flour. Chinese is not really suitable, Nandos and Carluccios do some gluten free stuff. Generally the simpler the food the better. It's not been as bad as we expected and the improvement in his health was huge and almost instantaneous after starting the diet. He even stopped snoring.

Hi Amelied - I dont have any experience of miscarriage, but my husband is coeliac. Make sure you see your doctor for a blood test before you cut out gluten - if you go gluten free and then have a blood test it will probably come back negative as there wont be any antibodies in your blood. If you test positive you will be able to get gluten free food on prescription. It is possible to be coeliac without showing any obvious symptoms so worth thinking about getting tested.

Hi Pecanpie many thanks for your quick response. As far as Im aware im not coeliac.

Im afraid im not familiar with the symptoms - could I have it and not know? Would a blood test tell me?

Are you coeliac? Undiagnosed coeliacs have a higher incidence of miscarriage and difficulty conceiving but it wouldn't increase your chances if you aren't coeliac.
