have i lost our baby?

help someone, yesterday I would of been 5 weeks 4 days pregnant, I woke up thinking I had started to get morning sickness. couldn't stomach any food at all. At 10am I had one sharp pain followed by a bleed then 2 hours later a clot passed the size of a babybel( cant think of anything else), I further bled for a couple of hours then stopped. I have woke still with no bleeding but still feel so sick and so tired, does this sound normal to you??
Have called the my gp & he says its a miscarriage and to just re-test next week to see if it says positive.
I cant just sit here wondering what the hell has just happened, I want to know if the baby is all out or if there is still more to come????

I am so sorry to hear this. There is no real way to know unless you get checked out by a doctor. Does your local hospital have an early pregnancy unit? Or could you go to A&E? Or a walk-in clinic? Usually at this early stage they would offer you a blood test to see what your HCG (pregnancy hormones) levels are like?

I have had what my GP told me was a miscarriage - but then turned out to be a healthy (now 10year old) baby, and a miscarriage that seemed like it would be okay and then wasn't. The worst thing is that only time will tell. I know how difficult this is - a scan will tell if there's a heartbeat but that will not stop your worry. Try to get busy and distracted, imo that's all you can do.

gp says its too early to scan yet which is fair enough, but other then that nothing, I have read that they can do a blood test, maybe ill ring again to see what he says.

The blood test will read the levels of HGC in your blood - to compare it to previous or later results. My GP did this and then sent me for a D&C - on the successful pregnancy. If you do get a scan it'll be an internal one but my earliest was at 7 weeks pg.

heinz55 I cant stop thinking I still am pregnant but keep telling myself don't be so silly, i've bled for a reason! I really wish they could tell me I still am but I just know that clot must of been the babe.

When I was 7 wks preg I had lots of bleeding and was referred to the Early Pregnancy Unit at hospital where they scanned me (4 separate times over 3 weeks). I know EPUs are not available all over the country so try googling your area to check maybe.
I don't think it's reasonable to leave you in limbo like this.
If I were you I'd call the GP and push for a referral. If necessary ask to see a different GP.
Don't want to give you false hope but I've known many people with bleeding go on to have a healthy pregnancy. It's not necessarily a miscarriage, however, you need to know where you stand, not just wait a week.

I have bled both times with my past pregnancies but only scanned early with my 2nd when I was 6 weeks 4 days and that was at a push so I know they wont scan me this early. We lost our 2nd baby at 3 days old when she was born 14 weeks premature so I cant help but think I've got something wrong with me and they couldn't give a shit!!! I could be all related and they just put my file away and forget about me!

Oh Love I'm so sorry for you. The worse thing about mc - or pregnancy after a mc scare - is the terrible sense of hopelessness and impotency. My mc'd baby would have been 5 this Saturday and yet I can so vividly remember the terrifying sense that something terrible was happening and I - the babys mother - could do nothing to protect him or her. Thing is though your baby may be fine (please God they will be) but until you know either way I would go along with believing that all is well and being as positive as you can for your baby - it's a mind set and you CAN do it.

I'm sorry to hear this. Unfortunatly it is just a waiting game at this stage. Its horrible being in this sort of limbo of not knowing whether you are still pregnant or not. I miscarried twins some years ago now and it was pretty much a case of doing pregnancy tests to see.

If you call the epu they should be able to send you some, you should avoid the upset of going and buying a test if possible. Even after a miscarriage your hormone levels can still produce a positive test for a week or 2 so don't be tempted to continually do them or try it early. If you start bleeding again or experience any more pain then call the epu as well.

Ime if you are still testing positive in a couple of weeks then they will take you in for a scan to see whats going on, they would be quite unlikely to take you in for a scan just now, but it does depend on the hospital, you could always call the hospital and ask, but please don't pin your hopes on getting one done.

Have you got some rl support just now? If you work then call them and take a few days off to rest if possible too.

How ever hard it is, I've got to wait I know I have, I'm going to wait till Monday and see how I am, if I've bled anymore then I defiantly know the baby is no longer there. I still have that small amount of hope inside that all is fine but only time will tell, thank you all for responding, it means so much

Love - dont give up all hope yet. I had blood so heavy with clots and continued to bleed afterwards for days. It tok the NHS nearly 2 weeks to scan me (I was 8 weeks). When I finally git to a scan there was a 12 week baby in there! Im now 27 weeks.

Hi I also lost a newborn 2 hours after birth at 27 weeks.
I contacted the bereavement midwife at Reading Royal Berks (not sure where you are!) and told them about my (medicated) anxiety and that I would like a plan for my next pregnancy. I was passed to a bereavement consultant who met with me. They have after our meeting offered me fortnightly scans and frequent swabs (prone to infection!) throughout my next pregnancy.

Whatever the outcome I would ask your GP for this as it has been massively reassuring- how long ago did you lose DD? Just to let you know it wasn't my GP who referred me- they have been hopeless- the bereavement midwife contacted me as standard procedure as I only lost DS last nov- however they were incredible but you may need to call them directly and explain your situation. They are normally based on maternity ward- It may not help for this pregnancy depending on the outcome but worth it for the next.

I have no great help but I lost one at 11wks once. For speed GP made me do a preg test again. It had turned negative so we knew it was lost. If turns pos do still see medical advice but could at least help in knowing if something's there to fight for

HI everyone, have finally got the chance to come on the laptop. Luckily all was fine and I had a scan at 6+3 and they found a heartbeat. I had a slight bleed on the outside of the sac which they say is nothing to worry about and will just come away by itself.(that's where the clot and bleeding had come from)
I'm now 7+5 and very happy baby stuck on in there and hoping for a healthy pregnancy, its a long old road ahead of me but im under the consultant and im sure they will take great care of me this time!
