Should I go to A&E?

I had a miscarriage two weeks ago and at the clinic was told that it was incomplete. I opted for natural management and the bleeding has been getting less and also turning from bright red to brown, on Friday I stopped my painkillers.

This afternoon the bleeding and cramps have started up again quite badly. I called the clinic who referred me to my GP. My GP is not available until tomorrow. Is this normal in an incomplete miscarriage and therefore ok to wait until tomorrow (bearing in mind it took 3 days to get an appointment at the EPU in the first place), or should I take myself off to A&E?

Just to update, it turned that that the miscarriage wasn't progressing on its own so I had a procedure to remove the remains and all seems to be well.

Note to self, don't believe the nurse when she says it won't hurt.

Thanks for the support. I have been referred back to the EPU at midday today. Unfortunately my DH can't get off work at such short notice so I will have to be a big girl and go on my own. I think I will be having another scan and another discussion about management.

I decided not to go in the end as I could cope with the pain. I'm off to the doctors in a minute, hopefully she will refer me back to the EPU. Took a test last night as instructed by the clinic and it's still positive so at the very least I'll need to go back for bloods.

He can't, he's a teacher that works an hours drive away. I have let him know and that is him coming home early.

Think about ringing your DH to get home earlier if you can.

Thanks Iggly, I have taken the codeine that the clinic gave me and it's taken the edge off but there is still cramping pains. I am losing a lot of blood down the toilet but it's manageable at present.

I'm on my own at the moment, I have to get dd from nursery at 4.30 then DH will be home at 5.30. If it gets worse I'll get dh to drive me to A&E.

sorry to hear about your MC.

Mine went from cramping and bleeding to almost unbearable pain and blood loss - that was when I called an ambulance. If you can manage at home, you're not filling up pads rapidly then wait but keep an eye and make sure someone is with you. If the blood loss becomes a lot - either ring an ambulance or get to a&e. They were fab - I had a bit of tissue blocking my cervix so uterus couldn't close hence the extreme blood loss. It's rare by the way but do keep am eye.

sorry I cant be more help but I didnt want to leave you stranded here, maybe post in chat quick and see what the girls over there say. Are you in a lot of pain? If you are and your soaking a pad then I would go to a&e if not I would wait till tomorrow. Hopefully someone else with a bit knowledge will be along soon.

They aren't available this afternoon, the first appointment I can get is for 9am tomorrow.

I don't want to waste hospital resources, I guess I am looking for reassurance that this is normal for a natural miscarriage
