Low-carb bootcamp

Is this a low carb dinner?

I actually got this recipe from the Low Carb recipe thread.
3x small leeks
Button mushrooms (1/2 tray)
Bacon
Butter
Double cream
DH does LC, I don't. I cooked this for him today and he loved it, but looking it up after he thinks it is too high in carbs?
I havent a clue. I think he thinks low carb is just meat, cheese and butter etc.

Does he mean that he needs to eat foods which are 3g or less carbs per 100g? (which is what I think it says or suggests in the bootcamp rules - correct me if I'm wrong). Leeks are 2.9g/100g so that dinner is fine

Oh and no rice!! Sorry - only on my first coffee so my brain hasn't fully engaged yet!

Sorry - the 'mindset' comment was from another thread!

I do 'low carb' intermittently now . I don't need to lose weight anymore so will have bread/potatoes now and then but very rarely eat sugar.

When I was being more strict with it I ate nothing containing:

Grains (cereals/bread)
Potatoes
Fruit (apart from berries)
Pasta
Refined sugar

I lost weight quickly and felt great. Lots of fat - as PP said 'it's a mindset'. It can be hard to get your head around first when you first start out as we have been told for so long that fat is bad!

Just for the record, I had bloods done a couple of weeks ago and, according to the Dr, my cholesterol levels are 'as good as they can be'. This is despite my high fat diet (lots of lard, butter, coconut oil).

No way! All that fruit will be adding a lot of carbs, and the cereal is definitely out.

I don't want to be rude, although I realise this will sound rude, but do you actually know what carbs are?

As @Wishesdocometrue says, head over to the Bootcamp threads and you'll find a whole load of information there about what is/isn't low carb. You don't have to join Bootcamp if you don't want to, though!

No, far from it. Fruit for a start is high in sugar and not low carb. Special K is high in carb. Milk can be.

You need to go to one of the bootcamp start threads and start frim scratch.

Need some advice- trying to get my head around LC diet.

Is this a low carb day?
Special k with semi skimmed milk and raspberries
2 poached eggs with salad and prawns
Gammon steak with stir fry veg - no starchy ones
2 peaches
Some pineapple

Why on earth does he think he should be under 3g?! What diet plan is he actually following?!

To be under 3g carbs per day is actually pretty much a no carb diet, and I'm not aware of any serious low carb plans that go so low.

Strict ketoers normally want to be under 20g for the entire day although up to 50g is fine for some people (such as myself).

I'd be surprised if he was somehow kicked out of ketosis because of some leeks and mushrooms lol. If he wakes up tomorrow feeling lethargic and grumpy then maybe he was kicked out of ketosis, but I find it unlikely.

He seems to think he needs to stay below 3g BIWI?
Sorry, I haven't much of a clue about it all, but looked up the leeks myself and they came in at 12g?
How many carbs would you be aiming for in a meal?

Thank you I much, as he really enjoyed it.
He looked them up and the leeks were coming out as 7g?
Anyway, all good.

The only carbs in that meal are in the leeks and in the mushrooms - leeks are low carb and mushrooms are very low in carbs. So it's all good!

Neither does my DH to be fair, regular as clockwork three times a day Wink
Ok, thanks. Think will send him to the bootcamp thread for some info.

I'm new to LC and not an expert but it's the sort of meal I eat most days and I've just lost 8lbs in my first week.

I drink loads of water plus the oil and other fats - I don't have any constipation problems Grin.

I would consider it to be.

I try and eat quite a lot of vegetables, obviously avoiding the higher-carb ones at present. I'm hopefully eating for health as well as weight loss and of course it helps avoid the dreaded constipation - I would think if you just ate meat, cheese and butter your bowels would set like concrete!

I'd also battle to eat enough fat if I didn't have carrier veggies and salad to put it on.
