Lone parents

Just want someone to share this with.

Obviously a lone parent and on those days where your child does something amazing and you have no one to say 'look what he did!'
Well, my DS who is 3 in a few weeks has a speech delay and today he said a whole sentence!!! I was so proud of him.
Unfortunately he yelled 'oh my god, cake!' at the sight of a birthday cake in a shop, but it was a sentence!! Will work on the rest! Wink
Just wanted to share. Smile

Ah ground that is lovely! I love it when they say really grown up things. A cake smash is an amazing idea, would have to do it on a large table cloth cause let's face it, don't want to waste any! He has been chatting a lot this week. He was having a little tantrum at bedtime so I sat at the top of the stairs and told him he had to go to bed now. So he rolled his eyes at me, turned round walked into his room shut the door. Next minute he opens it again peers through the crack and whispered 'GOODBYE...FOREVER!' I nearly fell down the stairs! He loves a bit of melodrama! Grin

That's so lovely, I want cake now!!

I am also a lone parent and had a moment last night I wanted to share but couldn't. I was reading DS (3.2) his bedtime story and when he turned the page for me I thanked him and he said 'no problem' like it was a completely normal thing for him to say. I laughed so hard that my DD (4.9) actually looked up from playing with her my little ponies which takes some doing :)

I hope I remember that forever. I love the little things that kids come out with. Oh my god cake is a classic Cake

Smile well done your lad. That's lovely and thanks for sharing. Mine was a late talker and I worried so much, it always makes me smile now many years as he never stops chatting!

Vonnie I heard of these cake smash things for children. I never really understood them, but could you perhaps do one for your DS for his birthday, not professional or anything, just to remember that wonderful moment?

That's fab to hear whirly, it's been a long wait to hear him saying something other than the odd grunt or getting his sister to speak for him. The supermarket staff looked rather startled at how excited I got and then got tearful! My DD who is 6 was so embarrassed. Grin

Wow, that is truly fab. Smile

My ds had speech delay and I would have been beyond thrilled to hear that from him at 3. (now he really doesn't ever shut up though Wink)

I also dealt with it all alone so I really get the wanting to share thing.

Hi Mooning it is a daughting prospect, I am less than a year in.
But I tell you what its the highs where you get to say to yourself, I helped do that.
And the lows where you have a cuppa and just breath.
And if on the days where neither of those things are enough, the support from these threads are just amazing.
It's the hardest thing I have ever done, but also so rewarding.
You will be fine.FlowersCake

A whole sentence and a little lad with his priorities all set out correctly.
I myself enjoy a good 'cake' exclamation daily from time to time ;)

So glad you can share here. I am just entering the lone parent world and this is part of what scares me, no one to share the ups and downs with!
Thanks

'oh my god, cake! I would have thought this would be a very good reason to ask Mary Berry around to bake you and DS one of her amazingly complicated Easter cakes she showed on her programme last night. Well it has a religious link.

Ah thanks everyone! I was so proud not only that he spoke but he is definitely my son in his love of cake! I have a feeling that sentence may have slipped out of my mouth on more than occasion while in the supermarket!!! Grin
And yes I am going back to purchase said cake in time for his birthday! Can't wait.

Thats fab. My ds had speech delay too, and his first words were 'mmmm, chocolate', at age 3, when he went on an Easter egg hunt. I sense a theme here. Well done to little Vonnie.

It's a great first sentence. Something tells me his DM has been known to say something similar Smile

Well done young Vonnie.
