Planes, argh!

Just moved to the area and I love it here but really struggling to get used to the noise of the planes. We're in St Marg. Everyone keeps telling me I'll get used to it, but I really can't imagine it. Any tips would be much appreciated. Do a lot of people end up scheduling their lives around the runway alternation patterns? How can you ever enjoy your garden with the racket going over?

Twickenham isn't on the incoming flightpath, but Isleworth and Hounslow are (look at a map and draw a line from Kew Gardens to Heathrow Airport, and its pretty obvious that it passes well north of Twickenham).

Twickenham and Teddington do get outward flights, but as others have said it's very intermittent and weather dependent. I sometimes notice it on really still summer days when I'm in the garden, and often in the evenings around 10.30 there's a series of big planes taking off one after another for about 20 minutes. It's never been a huge issue though.

Barnes, Richmond/Kew, Twickenham are in the flight path.

Putney is not. Very quiet. I can't cope with the planes in Richmond. My cousin lived in Kew for years but had to move in the end.

@newtothis. Yes. Esp at night. I used to row on the stretch at Barnes and the planes were so lou d coming in to land we could not hear the coach (who also had a microphone). And my friend who lives in Barnes we had breakfast in her garden one sunday morning at the planes were right overhead.

It's only really an issue in the summer. As long as you have double glazed windows. It might pay to look at a map and work out both the north and south landings. obviously the closer you get to the airport the worse the noise gets. Takeoffs are more noisy than landings - but it is very rare to have take offs over At Margs, Richmond etc. Despite what the airport says the planes start at 4am!

This is interesting as we are potentially moving to Barnes/Putney/Roehampton area- is the plane noise really that bad in these areas?!

Hi all,
We ( my young family) are planning to relocate from Middle East to London preferably Richmond bourough.
My daughter is 3.5 years old, I'm quite keen to secure a place for her in a good state school,
What would be the best sequence ?? should we rent first nearby some of good schools and once we secure admission and later on buy a flat in that area or should we buy from the outset within catchment area of couple of schools and see how it goes ?

I'm really at a loss, as what is the most logical approach given current completion for good primaries.

We are planning to move back in November 17.
What are the top 3 primary schools in Richmond?
Any tips and pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you x

We live a couple of minutes from the station. When I lived on st m road years ago concord would fly over every night at 6pm. Magic

I've lived in the area for 15 years.
You get used to it.

Thanks for replying. Whereabouts in St marg are you because they feel pretty much on top of me where we are to be honest! I know on the east Twickenham side it's not as bad.

You get used to it. In st margarets too. If you want a comparison go to Barnes where they really feel like they are on top of you. Like many longtime residents I think back fondly to the concord days.
