Hi Barbsieboo
Where to live is a tricky one but as lulla said it does come down to cash.
We are in the western suburbs, Point Cook which is a very new suburb. It is a very family suburb, plenty of shops/supermarkets, schools, kindergartens, parks, playgrounds and cycle paths. The oldest homes here are about 7 yrs old - average being 4 bedroom, master bedroom with ensuite, walk in wardrobe, 2-3 living rooms, decent sized garden for about $350+ per week. Have a look here at prices
My DH works in the city and catches the train in, takes between 45-60mins. Plenty of free parking at the train station.
I can drive into the city on the freeway in about 30 mins - no tolls either.
My DD starts school in 2 weeks time so I haven't got a lot of knowlege in this area. Basically I just checked out a few schools in our area, they have parent info nights and tours too. Then I just enrolled her in the school I liked the best. Once again as it is such new area the school are all new and have great facilities. School fees are $250/yr inc books. Extra for excursions and uniforms. I didn't really star looking at schools seriously until about August.
As for kindergarten, there is a central enrollment system where we are. You simply enroll at the local council and give your preferences for times and days. You can chose between either 10 0r 12 hours per week over 3 sessions. Fees are about $180 per term.
As soon as I got settled here I joined the local playgroup and it was my lifeline. Even now 2 yrs down the line all of my closest friends I met through playgroup.Find your nearest one here Apart from my lovely friends I have met here through MN.
Must go now and pay some attention to my DD as she is driving me crazy. Let me know if there is anything else you'd like to know. Maybe we can meet up when you are settled here - seeing as my lovely friend lullalullabye is abandoning me!!
