My new life will start here in Colorado. Good luck MamaApronstrings with the move. We'll all miss you guys. Califrau (can't handle the name change) me of course when it comes to Isketch.

MamaApron...how long have you been in the US? Where are you?

We too are leaving here in the summer, similar reasons (good time for children to go now, dh job etc).

Let us know how you settle in back in UK, particularly dc's (or maybe you won't have any internet for a while?).

FWIW I too will miss pool summers but also feel glad that we've 'done it'.

No dates for my move, but will be before the summer. Am hating not knowing! (I'm a bit of a control freak and need plans )

Sounds like a great time to move. Glad your DH got a great offer - they can be hard to get in Science.

Best of luck to you all.

Dh and I decided that we almost definately didn't want to stay here permenantly. The cost of college here is enormous - and we have 4 children. So as dd1 starts secondary school in september it seemed like a goodish time - almost the last opportunity before it gets really difficult for one or other of them. DH had a look about at the job market - he works in science and now funding wise is a good time to come - got a great offer. We thought we would have to come home to a huge pay cut but they matched his US salary so it became a 'no brainer' for us.

NO regrets about coming, (other than that emotionally and physically its all such damned herd work) would come again - its been great for DH career, really helped dd1 (SN) in school, and it may not be exotic - or anything like my first choice country - but I am really gald I have lived abroad, been truely independet from family etc

Hi - my neighbour was ok that night, thanks.

Sounds as though you have the same thought as me - missing friends, support & lifestyle here but deep down, I know I am English and I miss my fellow Brits!

Good luck with it all.

Mamaapronstrings Can i ask why your coming back, its just that we're thinking of going -sorry to be nosey but i'm now beginning to have doubts about leaving the uk

MamaApronstrings · 26/02/2007 21:24

Hi Mamama - i haven't been on for ages - how was your neighbour in the end that time?

Sort of mixed emotions - I will really miss some of our friends. Worried about the cost of living in the UK. Worried about dd1 who has SN and gets quite a lot of help here, and generally the other children settling.

I will REALLY miss summers by the pool, and my brother - who lives miles away in California (but its a lot closer than it will be).

Bit essentially I feel quite English, I don't think I want to stay here - so now is as good a time as any I guess..

when they made us an offer it included completion on the 1st March, and us staying here till the end of March. They really wanted the house and new we couldn't move till end March, we have 4 children so didn't weant to be in a hotel etc. Mortgage offers here are only valid for 60 days - so they had to own the house before the end of march.

They seem like a really nice couple - we get to stay here FREE for the month - only giving them a $1000 deposit against damage

Oooo, MamaApronstrings... will be following you in the not too distant future and have mixed emotions. How are you feeling about it all?

Not sure I like the idea of camping out for a month but is definitely better than the other options I hope.

Hope you're all ok.

so have the new people bought your house in the knowledge that they can't move in for a month? or are they renting it after you leave?
