Its surprising that two babies who so obviously have the same mum and dad look so different.

Aren't they cute.

the hand holding was the cutest thing I have ever seen. I agree that facially they actually look really similar. What a lovely family.

Ahhh, so cute!

Spokette, so you have the same situation as the couple in the video (except b/b b/g twins). They must be adorable.

IB - was it Remee and Kian IB?

They are not identical (doesn't meant that it hasn't been reported as identical in some parts though).

On hte subject of identicality - you do sometimes see small differences between ID girl twins as, although every cell in both girls bodies with have identical genetic make-up one of the X chromosomes is shut down in every cel. This happens randomly so the 2 girls may have subtle differences because of this.

Also there has now been a case of "semi-identical" twins reported. There have always been theories about semi-ID being possible (but incredibly rare if they were to happen). This happens when 1 egg is fertilised by 2 sperm simultaneously. This is thought to be against the biological rules of fertilisation, but has now been proven to have happened.

My DH is white, I'm black and we have twin boys. One is fair with blue eyes and fair hair like DH, the other is brown with brown eyes and dark hair like me. Funnily, the hair of the fair twin is afro in texture whereas the brown twin's hair is more caucasian in texture. One would have thought it would have been the other way around.

I am often asked if they are twins but more especially if the fair one is mine!!

The rudest comment I had was in the supermarket once when a racist prat said that I was ugly but the fair twin was beautiful and completely ignored the dark one.

DH does worry that the dark one will be bullied more than the fair one because of his colouring and that the fair one will be teased for having a black mother even though he looks white.

My two boys - full siblings but not twins, have radically different colouring. DS1 has completely caucasian features, straight blond hair, green eyes and fair skin. DS2 has curly dark hair, dark skin, brown eyes, full lips, wide nose. DH and I get a lot of looks when we go out together with them. They're about the same size too (22 months apart but ds1 is tiny for his age whereas ds2 is huge) and yesterday someone asked me if they were twins. I thought it was a bit odd, but then thought about this story!

Those babies are very gorgeous. Mum and dad are a real catalogue couple too! They must be so proud of their little family.

I do know that RT.

Just reporting what was said in the newspaper, by the reporter and the parents themselves.

IllegallyBrunette, identical twins have exactly the same genes as each other. Idential twins happen when a fertilised eggs split into two seperate embryos.

Non idential twins happen when the mother's body releases two ova and the two ova are fertilised by two different sperm. Genetically twins are as close as two non twin sibblings. Chances of having same sex idential twins is about 50-50.

Idential twins will always have the same colour skin and be the same sex. Unless one twin has been sunbathing and the other has not.

There was a picture in our local paper the other week of one yr old identical twin girls, except one was black and one was white.

It was very strange to look at, as you could see that they were indeed identical, but then not at the same time.

That's true. My nephew was quite dark when he was tiny, but now (strapping 18 year old) he has inherited my family's pale skin to go with his Ghananian grandparent's fab dark curly hair and deep brown eyes. He is very striking

They do look very similar. Two of my nephews looked very much like these two when they were born, but over time their colouring has evened out a fair bit.

I agree that the aside from colouring they actually appear quite similar, it must have been odd though as you expect even non identical twins to appear more obviously related

I think if you ignore the skin colour they look very alike. I had a friend at university who had white skin, but afro hair (blond) and afro features. His younger sister was quite dark skinned but had very caucasian features and straight (black) hair. They were both very attractive. Genes are weird things!
