Interesting item!

Are we really so prudish?!

Rachel et al - what do you think? Lovely serene shots of happy content babies and their cool mums! Maybe try and get some kind of Maternity Alliance (or whoever) endorsement...I'll start a thread in case some mums/dads haven't seen this thread.

The boards are so busy they might not have spotted this fab idea. So I have mailed the Mumsnet team about it!

What a resourceful lot you are! J and C are filming at mo, but we'll discuss in our meeting this eve and come back to you.

What a fantastic idea. Inspired! Could be great publicity for greater tolerance to breastfeeding in public too.

cant remember the name of the artist, but theres a photographer who gets hundreds of naked people to turn up to a venue so that he can take a photo of them all. he does it all over the world. m'netters could do a similiar one, all turn up to a place and start b'feeding at the same time and take a photo... hundreds of nipples on display in a public area... wonder if thats some sort of public order offence?

I like the 'ages' idea - esp if it shows toddlers being bf too! Maybe we should collaborate with Baby Milk Action as they already produce a breastfeeding calender . It has gorgeous pics in it.

There is an ad on Scottish TV where the camera "walks" through a busy cafe (the type where people sit in easy chairs etc.) The commentary is along the lines of "one of these women is protecting herself from (such and such diseases)....." and then goes on to say something like "she is protecting her child from..."

I can't quite remember the exacting wording. The basis is that eventually the camera stops on a woman who is inconspicuously but comfortably breastfeeding her child. It is a very positive advert, highlighting all the health benefits but more importantly, hopefully shows to the ignoramuses that it isn't "boobs out."

That's a great ad Paula. I also liked the one for Irn Bru that was on the billboards around these parts, all it showed was a woman b/feeding with the slogan "Mum's been at the Irn Bru again" and it was banned! Mad! Granted don't suppose Irn Bru is the best thing to be drinking if you are b/feeding but that's beside the point.

On same theme my local gym refused to put up one of our Mums on Babies posters on their noticeboard a while ago - lovely pic of breastfeeding mum with caption "Were you at it all night?" - on the grounds that their members would find it offensive! The calendar is a jolly idea and would certainly generate some news but having given it a bit of thought we are a wee bit uneasy about it. Here's why. Because the content of womens' calendars are usually sexual would we not be giving a slightly ambiguous message about breastfeeding - in fact exactly the opposite message to one the one we are trying to promote - breastfeeding is not sexual it's completely normal? Another slight concern we have (with the idea that mumsnet is representing all mums) is that it could be seen as a bit excluding of those who bottle fed for whatever reason. But then again quite possibly we are being ridiculously over-sensitive and have lost the plot... what does everyone think?

You could always do two calenders? One with the b/feeding and one with cute baby shots, or one calender that combines the two, then it wouldn't be a 'b/feeding calender'. Did Suedonim not mention that Babymilk in Action does a b/feeding calender, if they get away with it, so could Mumsnet.
