Is the most awful thing, and makes me so angry, and also I wish I could walk into the tv and take one of the babies nad llok after it, but all I ca od si sit there feeling appalled and feel helpless to do anything, is hellish the condition of these children and the babies are all lovel yand fresh although one was starving then you seen them disingrate, staritn to be disturbed, the older babies cannot sit up the ones who can rock back and forth and they end up disabled physically and mental and then they ahd 2 18 year old who had lost the will to live after a life like that ..waiting to die. heartbreaking especially as I would adopt one but my dh smokes sometimes gets depresses, we have a low income and are uni etc, but I could still offer a baby like that a better life than they ahve at the moment just wish I could do something

My mum went to Romania with a convoy of medical supplies 14 years ago when this was first recognised. That is something that will stay with her forever. I cant beleive fourteen years on this is still going on. I remember at the time that loads fo people in the western world and celebs were falling over themselves to adopt these babies.

What needs to happen I believe is training. My mum trains people, she does not just go over with disinfectant but trains people who can then put into practice her ideas when working with children and adults alike. The trouble is (she has found) that corruption is rife..she is seen as a wealthy (i wish) westerner and has already been taken for a ride and lost money.

If any of you feel you want to help, I am sure she would be happy to involve you in fundraising, or just make a donation!

the problem is also people get paid so little. There is a real dog eat dog mentality because everyone is so desperate to survive. Training is important, and so are salaries and resources.

It's my SIL. She is amazing. Spends her life on a plane visiting some terrible places.

Sad to see that news report though. These stories pop up and then disappear just as quickly and we soon forget that they are happening. I am so guilty of this. I see the great work my SIL's organisation is doing and I just assumed the problem had gone away, but as that ITN news report showed, their are still many childen in great need.

I saw this too and it stopped me sleeping. I'm just about to set up a standing order for the Relief Fund for Romania - at least it's something.

I looked into adopting and i'm sure one of the reasons they wouldn't let you adopt from Romania is because the population is shrinking and the romanian governments way of stopping this is to ban overseas adoption. What the government won't do though is actually help people get out of poverty so they can bring up their children instead of selling them or abandoning them.
