DM Link: www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2310797/Joan-Collins-right-Any-woman-wants-stay-beautiful-like--needs-diet-day-life.html

Some of her finest quotes in case anybody doesn't want to click.

"I am 42 years old and have been on a permanent diet for the past 30 years. The logic is simple and irrefutable: any self-respecting woman wants to be thin, and to be thin you need to spend your life on a diet."

"I don't believe overweight is ever attractive. Whether we like it or not, we live in an age and a part of the world where men and women regard thin as beautiful."

"I have no intention of letting my body slide flabbily into middle age. I believe that any woman with a modicum of self-respect should watch her figure with the same vigour."

"I was glad to see the back of Easter this month, as it seems to have been hijacked by the greedy masses who regard it as a free pass to gorge on chocolate."

"For three decades, self-denial has been my best friend. And one of my biggest incentives is that I know men prefer slim women."

"I have only ever dated men who kept a strict eye on my figure. My partners are not only boyfriends but weight-loss coaches."

"In the workplace, male bosses will always give the top job to a woman who looks fit and in control, rather than one who looks like a bulging sack in danger of imminent cardiac arrest."

"I fainted with hunger on one occasion - a minor hitch, eclipsed by the fact that I was being asked out on lots of dates."

"I am 5ft 11in and slimmed down to a size 8. One of my lecturers was so worried she pulled me aside to voice her concern. I put her intervention down to jealousy, as she was a size 16."

"Luckily for me, there is no better weight-loss incentive than a Frenchman. Pascal would not tolerate a fat wife and has told me that if I put on weight, our marriage is over. What more motivation do I need?"

"The world admonished Kate Moss for claiming that 'nothing tastes as good as skinny feels' but I'd go further. As I see it, there is nothing in life that signifies failure better than fat."

Hmm

I'm thinking of giving her the benefit of the doubt. She sounds as though she still has an eating disorder and is possibly in an emotionally abusive relationship, so isn't thinking straight.

On the other hand, she may just want another five minutes' of fame...

As someone who has never been happy with my figure (despite the fact i'm in a 'healthy' BMI range) this woman has made me feel like utter poo this morning.

But i know she's wrong. This is just her opinion. My friend is about four dress sizes bigger than me and is by far the prettiest woman i know. Size doesn't equal beauty. Nor does it guarantee success.

Personally, i'd have thought an employer would rather give a promotion to someone who was larger than someone fainting with hunger.

Ah, but tread carefully, vipers, don't hand her material for next week's column, "My vicious slating by those jealous fat ugly MNers"

Meh. Size 8 or not she has the personality of an oatcake. She is old and tired(professionally speaking) and its same shit different day with her.

I'd rather be fat than be a heartless cow whose main goal in life is to be a trophy.

This is just weird. I am 42 years old and have never weighed more than 8 1/2 stone except when pregnant (am 5 foot 4) and yet I don't diet at all, just eat normally! There must be something a bit odd about her if she needs to eat so little. I think this is made up.
Also I once saw Joan Collins in Harrods and she looked horrible, like an anorexic stick. Far too skinny and not attractive at all.

Actually nothing tastes as good as being healthy until you're 97 feels.

I'm not sure that Ms Brick fainting she's so hungry is any healthier than my Easter chocolate-fest.

But at least she earns money from her unhealthy life style which is more than I do.

"My partners are not only boyfriends but weight-loss coaches."

The long winter evenings must just fly.

Seriously though, she has a pretty fucked up idea about what is important in a relationship. And indeed in life.

I wonder what her upbringing was like? She must have picked up these thought patterns somewhere...

Wow! 30 years on a diet. No wonder she's so angry at women who don't give a shit.

What a sad, sad life that woman must lead.

I read her article eating a lovely Club biscuit (orange, if you're interested), I might have another one just to lower my self respect a bit more.

What's up Sam, are the coffers running low?

I find it ominous that the men she is with are that bothered or interested - weird control freakery. I cant imagine DH passing comment on what I eat the thought of him policing what I eat to keep in shape is laughable. Thats not a normal relationship surely?

OP don't let this woman make you feel bad about yourself.
The DM pay her to write articles to get us all frothing and click over to the website.
She admitted as much when she was on Big Brother.

Don't give this any more brain power.

"As I see it, there is nothing in life that signifies failure better than fat." I haven't read the article (refuse to link) but this statement is laughable.

So anyone who is fat is a failure, even if they are an eminent doctor/surgeon/scientist/historian/author/musician? Whereas, if you are so thin you faint becasue you don't have the intelligence to realise your body needs fuel to work properly, but men fancy you, you are a success? Really???

The sad thing is that this is the message young people now are receiving from society even apart from moronic articles like this one. So sad.

and what MummyPigs said. On what planet does thin = success but not PhD's, Nobel prizes, jobs and all the myriad things women have acheived?
