...has been released without charge.
That poor girl, I wonder what the full story is.

I agree with the others about going home with things in my pockets I have come home with unused swabs, keys, medication I was meant to put in the treatment room, 1000's of rolls of medical tape!! I think most nurses could be done for theft after a busy shift (obviously I returned the swabs keys and meds etc) but if I was investigated after said shift then I guess I would be charged with theft, scary really.

I feel very sorry for this girl. But I also feel a bit let down by Nmc, they suspended her before she was even charged! So that means anyone who is falsely accused whether that be by a colleague, a patient, a relative, police or otherwise - the Nmc turn there back on you, I find that shocking!

There should be stricter guidelines about the press and reporting before the person is proved guilty.

This whole case is so terribly unfair, unjust and most of all sad for those who have died and their relatives.

Its bollocks really..

apparently said saline bag might not even have been tampered with,
other possible contaminated evidence did not have her finger prints on.....

meanwhile because they concentrated on her, has bad practices or a person looking to hurt people been allowed to carry on?

Considering NMC hearings usually take years to happen, the fact they suspended her so quickly is very cynical indeed. I really do hate the NMC, but that's a whole other thread.

If I were her, I'd have a Beatrix Kiddoe-style list with 'People I am Going to Sue' written across the top of it. Her career is over, so she might as well make all the money she can.

Sadly true about some nurses being vindictive. I know at least one person who was chased out of the profession due to bullying and false accusations.

Yes the press did overstep the Mark and even some of the reporting today was a about her claiming compensation rather than a girl who has been locked up for 6 weeks.

It was incredibly shabby of the CPS to make a statement to the effect of 'she's not guilty of what she was charged with, but we could have done her for theft of medicine if we'd wanted, so tough'. Her lawyer had said today that she did have painkillers from the hospital in her possession - which she had permission to take as she was fighting a throat infection. The authorities seem very keen to smear her and push a 'no smoke without fire' angle, probably to cover up their own failings.

Agree, catkins, it's the same kind of horrible smear tactics the police have used in the past against innocent people who they have wrongly accused - Colin Staggs, for example. The tabloids kept going for him because they were egged on by police officers who insisted he WAS guilty even though they couldn 't prove it.

The Daily Mail are still reporting on her, following her and printing the most unflattering photos they could. Now she has lots of morons commentating on how fat, ugly etc she is. DM is a pile of shit unless they are using reverse psychology and being mean to garner public outrage at their crappy reporting.

That poor woman. It scared me when I read that the only evidence was her fingerprints on a bag of saline that they are not sure had been tampered with at all and some other non-contaminated items. No doubt if they fingerprinted everything on that ward, they could make similar charges to every member of staff employed there. I'm sure there's equipment that I've touched, even just to move out the way which could used as "evidence" if there was any suspicious circumstances in the practice area I work in. It's like accusing someone of doing their own burglary because their fingerprints are on the door handle of their own home.

Irrespective of the NMC (who still have not lifted her suspension it would appear), her career is over at 26 / 27. Even if her colleagues will work with her again, there will be members of the public who have seen her picture in the paper, conclude there is no smoke without fire, and don't want her looking after them or their relative.

I only feel sympathy for her.
