Tell me the best set of pans to buy please!

I've just chucked out a set of Prestige Lifetime Guarantee (ha!) and using a couple of cheapo pans from Aldi atm, I need a whole new set of pans. I'm prepared to spend up to £200. I fancied real copper but apart from not wanting to spent a grand on a set of pans, I haven't had any reviews.

I want something that looks cool on display, cleans up well and will last. Nothing that is Teflon coated and scratches and looks a bugger after about six months!

Any advice appreciated, thanks.

Stellar - had my set for 15+ years and still in great condition with strong handles.

Curiousmouse · 23/01/2022 15:26

I had an aldi steamer and it didn't last. I like stellar and prestige pans. Although I discovered the best value steamer is Royal Cuisine 3 tier (comes in various widths)- solid without breaking the bank.

John Lewis, straight sided stainless steel. Mine are 28 years old and still shiney.

Some great recommendations, thank you!

I'm really happy with my Green Pan set

flashpaper · 23/01/2022 16:00

I've just bought a set of tefal ingenio pans and I love them. They're really good pans and the cupboard is so tidy because they're so good to stack.

Scautish · 23/01/2022 16:00

Le Creuset strain less steel however you’ll not get a whole set for £200 however IMO they are worth building up over time. Fabulous pans.

These. The plain steel without nonstick, and with a plain steel lid. There's nothing to go wrong on them. No funny handles to go soft or collect water or work loose. No nonstick to scratch off. Solid without being stupidly heavy. Work well on induction, I've had mine about three years.

John Lewis stainless steel with straight sides. They stack well and don't fall over in the cupboard.

Drinkyourweaklemondrink · 23/01/2022 16:05

We just got the tefal inspire set and they are really good for storing

livingthegoodlife · 23/01/2022 19:24

Le creuset stainless steel. Absolutely fantastic. No signs of wear. Think I've had them about 5 years? I'm hoping for a lifetime of use. You can get them in sales or outlet stores but I don't think you'll get a whole set for £200.

livingthegoodlife · 23/01/2022 19:27

Just seen they are more like £350! Yikes. I paid about £250 I think, but like I said, it was a few years ago.

In which case I'd probably buy one or two pans & a cheaper set to bulk it out.

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 23/01/2022 19:30

Le creuset stainless steel here too. Bought a set of 3 for about £150 in the sales 11 years ago and they still look almost new.

Knotty10 · 23/01/2022 19:33

@pickingdaisies @chocolateorangeinhaler @Datsandcogs please could you post a link to the John Lewis pans? These sound excellent but there are a few different ones on the website. Thank you Smile

I used to work in a cook shop with a generous discount, still chose these over supposed better quality brands at a lesser price! www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-classic-stainless-steel-lidded-saucepan/p63868

RedRobin100 · 23/01/2022 19:39

We have le creuset they’re fab.

misstiggiwinkle · 23/01/2022 19:42

Le creuset SS, 10 yrs old and look good as new. Absolutely brilliant and worth the ££

TragoCardboardCopper · 23/01/2022 19:51

I have had vogue tri wall pans for about 15 years and they still look nearly new.

They're s/steel on inside and outside, with aluminium sandwiched between for even heat transfer.

They do a version with copper on the outside too.

These are mine!

OhWifey · 23/01/2022 22:33

IKEA 365 are brilliant. The design has slightly changed in recent years but my 10 year old ones still look perfect and my year old newer one is just lovely to cook with

Shineyitem · 24/01/2022 16:19

Stella 7000

I got a set for £ 140 in sale. Amazing and recommended by a chef.

WrinklesShminkles · 24/01/2022 16:30

Stellar stainless steel draining pan with colander holes in the glass lid has lasted decades.

When we were looking to replace our rubbish pans with a quality set, we bought triply stainless steel pans from Procook (wanted triply as heat conduction is meant to be the best and very even) - significantly cheaper than all other quality brands we looked at. They are excellent quality we've been really impressed with them and have bought a set for our son/DIL. They really like them too. Very solid and well made.

They do non-stick and uncoated versions of the wok and frying pans (not obvious from the above page but you can find these in the frying pan and wok sections). We went for uncoated as didn't want the non stick either.
