Eczema sufferers - help me with dish washing and rubber gloves!!!

I have eczema on my hands. No gloves = lots of hurting. Just basic rubber gloves = lots of dry itching. Spontex hypoallergenic rubber gloves (think they are spontex) have now started to = lots of dry itching too

We have no dishwasher, and as much as I would like to insist I never wash up again and DH much do it all, tis just not practical (especially as I dye nappies for a living and need to wear some sort of gloves).

Before I resort to the very hot and hard to manoeuvre cotton gloves under rubber gloves method that I had to use working in the lab... any magical products you know of?

Thank you!!!

i ahve this problem i have found that the ecover washing up liquids are much kinder to my skin, i regularly see the dermatologist at the hospital for my eczma its a nightmare and ecover is the only product that doesnt irritate, tho my hands get sore anyway sometimes and dp then helps out

oh and with regards to the gloves, the only thing i found that worked was to wear cotton gloves underneath, or slather my hands in a very thick barrier cream, hth

I used to soak my hands in vaseline, put on cotton gloves and buy sensitive rubber gloves in a learger size.....then bought a dishwasher and changed to disposables as the pain and pus and cracks became tooooo much!

I use cotton gloves under thick heavy duty tesco rubber gloves and it does the trick, I like the thick gloves for some reason, i get them in medium.

what about surcare washing up liquid?

Its colour and fragrence free...

would putting some E45 on under rubber gloves help? I often do that and it moisturises them SO well!

Thank you! Will try it all.

Next question... where can I buy cotton gloves - all of my old ones were, erm, borrowed? from when I was in the lab, and at that point it only covered certain fingers, so I have random fingers cut out of them - could do with some new ones.

can't help with rubber gloves as they were all bad for my hands. we also don't have a dishwasher and i use persil dish washing liquid and no gloves. ecover and fairy were a disaster. i get by by using cortisone cream every couple of weeks. that seems to keep it under control ie. not get pussy, still cracked though.

in long term, dishwasher is the key!

Go to your local builders supply- you should be able to by a box of vinyl non powdered gloves. my hands tend to react to normal latex gloves but not vinyl. They should only cost about £4 for a hundred.

My GP told me that it was better to not wear gloves and then rinse hands and apply cream. You could try a barrier cream or gel instead of gloves, that should provide some protection I've done it before and it does seem to work. As someone else suggested SUrcare is pretty good to use as a washing up liquid too
