Disgusting pee carpet

There's a part of our living room carpet that has smelled of urine since we moved in (not constant but sometimes you get a whiff if there's a draft etc) maybe previous owners had pets or something that wee'd on it. Anyway DP cleaned the whole carpet with the George wet and dry carpet cleaner yesterday and it looks a million times cleaner but today the smell is 500 times worst, it is sooo strong it's making me feel sick, I don't know if he's disturbed it or something but what can I do to get rid of the smell? It's really strong and I have a 10 month old so don't really want him rolling around on it either. It's really embarrassing when people come here too as I'm a clean and tidy person. Any suggestions appreciated

I was going to suggest bicarb too. Leave it overnight if you can before vacuuming it and it will hopefully absorb any moisture.

Wash the carpet with biological washing powder, I used it while my dogs were toilet training, completely got rid of the smell.

Pet shops sell a product called 'Simple Solution' specifically designed to clean up after pet accidents. It breaks down the microbes causing the smell. Its pricey @ £7 + plus a bottle but it works. ( 3 dogs/ 3 cats/ 2 horses)

Try a pet deodoriser spray (supermarket own brand is about £1.50) spray on, then clean, then spray again

Works for when kids are sick & potty training accidents too Smile

Lifted the carpet (there's no underlay there). Can't replace carpet as its rented property, gonna try dry the floor underneath with hair dryer/electric heater later, god help me in this heat!

If you can lift the carpet where the smell is and clean the underlay then that would get rid of the smell, maybe the floor underneath has pee on it. I would be tempted to cut that piece of underlay out and replace it if it is possible.

Thanks I'll try that!

I bet when the carpet was cleaned the underlay and floor were wetted which has reactivated the smell.

If there is no possibility of a new carpet - or taking up the old one to renew the underlay and clean the floor properly then you might be able to mask the smell with good old bicarb sprinkled liberally - allowed to dry/sit for a good while then vacuumed up .Repeat until the smell has gone.
