Do you batch cook?

Hi, it is just me and DH and the moment.. little one on the way. I good in batches regularly. We buy a free range turkey and make batches of curry. I have just made eight portions of casserole and six mince dinners. I honestly think it saves so much time and effort. I buy the veg on offer in ALDI/LIDL and go to butchers for meat. I do love cooking though and don't rely on these dinners. Would love a few more freezer dinner ideas like a nice goulash or that as stuck in a bit of a rut.

I don't batch cook as such, but often when I cook meals, there is enought left over for me to freeze some portions - both for children or adults. I do this with casseroles, mince (for bolognese or cottage pie), fish pie, pasta, pasta sauce. I also deliberately make to much mashed potato & freeze some as it is a great accompaniment to pretty much anything!

Jemster you absolutely can cook & freeze reduced meat, or just freeze it raw & get it out when you fancy it - it will keep for months Smile

I cook big batches of beef bourguignon - total cost of ingredients about ten pounds it can get four or five big helpings from that to freeze.
Also I picked p some little plastic pots and fill them with home made soup for my lunches.
I love cooking so sometimes get bored just re heating stuff from the freezer, but it's so helpful at the end of the month when you're poor!

Absolutely, just cook it that night.

I don't but I'd like to. I often see meat reduced to bargain price at the end of the day in Sainsburys as it has to be eaten that day. If I cooked it that evening would it be ok to freeze and reheat at later date?

yes. I always fill my slow cooker, have one meal for 4 out of it, and put 1 or 2 more meals for 4 in the freezer - chilli, bolognaise sauce, various stews/casseroles.

Sometimes I make up 2 or 3 lasagnes at once, or shepherd's pies.

I batch make soups and freeze them in individual portions as I never finish a full can. I also make batches of chilli, bolognese, sheperds/cottage pie. I've also got some individual apple crumbles in the freezer at the moment. If I've a glut of any veg I'll chop that and freeze it too.
