DS is a nightmare with the bins - need something new

At the moment we have a swing bin and a recycling box. DS is almost 1 and his favourite game is emptying the recycling box and throwing stuff everywhere. He also worked out how to reach through the swing bin lid and take out the rubbish, so I turned it around and now he's worked out how to take the lid off.

So we need a new bin set up.

Some friends have a gorgeous touch top bin, which is split into two compartments inside, which would be perfect, but it's a Brabantia and we can't really afford it.

Can anyone recommend anything similar but cheaper please?

Oh, and if you think a pedal bin, for example, would keep out a small child then it doesn't need to be a touch top. It just seemed to me that he'd have trouble with that.

I have the solution.....took me ages to find it, but now, as a mother of 3 Dc's I can claim to be the font of all knowledge re garbage emptying.

Its a big bin, robust, child proof, available on e-bay, tall, big swing top.................just pop DC in it, he'll not get out till you tell him Grin

Seriously though, its just a phase....next they will be removing the artificial coals and smearing them on the off-white carpet on your new rental flat....Indaba shudders when she remembers the cash deposit she lost Smile

Good luck.

We just use a carrier bag hanging from the door handle. Not brilliant but DS ignores this. Any other type of bins, however, he is magnetically attracted to (he's nearly 2, and has been like this for a long time!). I'm going to get something nice when he's about 7.........Grin

We don't have a cupboard free to put it in annoyingly.

I think we're going to get a pedal bin, we only have a super cheap swing top so it's no loss to get rid of it.

Thanks for replying :)

DS is the same. We often think he is in training to become a black Labrador :o

My DD was never this disgusting!

Get rid of the swing top. While ds is in this phase, have a carrier bag and rake outside often. Put recycling bin inside a cupboard with a child lock.
Job done for now.

(and repeat to self v often 'it's a phase'...)
