I am contemplating home educating my 11 year old son who started secondary school in September. He is at a good school I have not complaints with it at all but I just feel that he would be more suited to being home educated. I have been contemplating it for a while but am just concerned about the socializing aspect. I know he would be happier being home school at the moment but I suppose I am just nervous about making such a big decision and don't want to make the wrong one for him. There seems to be so much information about that I don't really know where to start. Can anyone give me some advice about the best sites to do some research from? :S

Hi, we have a bunch of threads, for people new to HE to look at, on Books and websites on HE, how to deregister, and how to find home educators local to you...I'll go bump them for you.

If after that we can help, then give us another shout.
If you are on FaceBook there is a Mumsnet HE FB page but do send a pm to me or a message to the admins there, saying who you are.
You'd be very welcome and we can chat more freely there.

Hello MEV76.

I think it is normal to be a bit apprehensive when contemplating such a huge change. We too decided for similar reasons and had no issues with the school.
There are lots of links to H.ed orgs on here but I am terrible linking, so hopefully somebody better will be along soon.
We found just as many opportunities to socialise as we did before, but sometimes you may need to make more effort. Many of the groups/activities provided by your LEA are accessible to H.ed dc and of course there are friends made from school too. My dd still sees them and plays regularly.
