Elephants breath

I’m late to the party but quite like farrow and ball elephants Breath . We are having oak floors put down and I can’t work out if go or not ? Has any one got this combination?

Don't get it colour matched, it never works.

However try Crown 'East village' is pretty much indistinguishable from the F&B. It's the only one we couldn't tell the difference and I can tell the difference between dulux white and F&B 'all white'

And I am a huge F&B fan....

We have EB with a ‘greyoak- beechy’ type wood floor, it looks great. We also have F&B Skimming Stone with the same floor and that looks b...e...a...t...i...f....u.....l!

@Namechange128 I totally agree F&B is way over hyped, Mylands marble matt is brilliant paint, such good coverage & really hardwearing.
Little Greene has some good colours & paint & paper is good as well.
Johnson’s paint is a good alternative to Dulux/Homebase etc.
Yy using tester pots, for small projects I have saved so much money by doing this, frames/shelves/mirrors all sorts.

Decorators don't like it because it's thin and you need plenty of coats. It still looks beautiful though. My friend has colour matched String in her hallway and it's really grim

I'll never do F&B origjnals again. The colours are lovely but it's a pain to paint on (decorators are never fans), and then it marks like crazy - and touch ups are tricky, because their batch system means that often a new tin won't be an exact match.
If I gave budget to splash I'll go Little Greene or Mylands any day, but honestly Johnstone colour matching is very good - just alwaya do a good size tester, never match with Dulux, as they match to their closest colour, which is not necessarily that close at all.

I agree with not colour matching

Farrow and Ball is such lovely paint, the colours change depending on the light. I've never seen a good colour match they always look flat to me.

I would only get colour matched if I was painting a really big area and it would make a significant difference to cost. Generally I paint only a small area at a time, and splash out on F&B, Little Greene or Mylands. I also make a lot of use of my tester pots - nearly everything in my house is from junk shops, skips or ebay, painted with mixed up remnants of test pots.

We have Johnstone's colour match to elephants breath, it's great and you can get much more robust paint types. Note that it does look a bit lilac in the afternoon light where we are (but not at all in our old house). As for the oak floors, there are so many shades that you'll really need to do a tester...

We have tried cornforth white and blackened with oak floors (the more yellow type) and both look great. The blackened has a slightly lilac tinge but the cornforth white is definitely a grey grey.

Elephants breath is such an awful name for a paint colour!

If you dont want to spend a fortune on Farrow and Ball paint, you can use Johnstones. If you have a Decorators Merchants near you Cane Adam or Brewers etc They can mix F&B colours as they have the recipes for the colours. I hope this helps?

We have a bleached oak floor and elephants breath. Looks great!
It looks different on different walls depending on the light and I really like this. My furniture is more yellow oak and this also looks ok

Yes I have and have put it on lining paper but the floor and paint are new as the room is an extension . I’m pretty sure it’s ok but was worried about the oak having a yellow tinge and the paint having a lilac tinge .
I’m ok to give it a go and if the light is wrong I can paint over it ! I was just checking it wasn’t a definite no go ! I’ve been looking at colours fir so long I think my eyes are broken !

It sounds good, but hard to know for sure without seeing the floor, or knowing what the light is like in your room. Have you tried a tester pot?
