I'm having a wobble, I'm not sure the colour of the walls is working with the floor tiles in the family bathroom - thoughts?

And if it doesn't work any suggestions?

Thank you to everyone who helped with this. Ended up painting it all the same colour (the wall colour) and it looks lovely

The panelling is just from B&Q, but the skirting and the top part were purchased separately. The top part is actually and upside down picture rail! It was all put together by a carpenter and I like the overall look of it.

Having collected over fifty pounds worth of paint samples (!!) I finally decided to go for the top colour over the whole thing for the time being (not yet done), if I like it it will stay that way if not I will change the colour once the rest of the house is sorted, I was spending far too much time focusing on this one decision and I wasn't happy with any of the samples. I am not usually this fussy but this room really defeated me.

Can I ask where you got your panelling from? We need some for our bathroom and I'm going round in circles trying to find the right stuff! Thanks. PS love your bathroom!

Tatlerer - I bought these tiles a while ago too, I think BSO is cheaper, free delivery too.

The suggestions n to have the whole of the wall the same colour is good. 👍🏻

Whole wall the same colour would work well. The panelling and flat wall would still have visual interest with the varied textures without fighting with the pattern of the floor tiles.

This sort of colour but maybe a bit greyer.

I don't think they go well. I'd go for s browner grey or an olive-grey.

I think it looks lovely just the way it is.

I really like the tiles and the blue on the tongue and groove. I think the wall colour is a bit pale and bland, I would go richer and warmer on the wall colour - picking out the darker beigey colour in the tiles would be best I think and would bring it all together.

Please don't use scotia edging, it is horrible and I've only ever seen it used on laminate floors.

Your house looks lovely, I am extremely jealous of your parquet!

I thought olive green or grey until I saw the picture coming up the stairs with the blue of the hallway... it's got to be white/neutral I think (the same colour as the top part of the wall would look lovely). Make your tiles the star of the room.

I agree the blue is ok, and a beautiful colour, but not quite right.

Your home is gorgeous.

But if not that, their site is a good way to get colour suggestions.

The hall looks a bit Drawing Room Blue. Assuming, it's similar, FB suggests these colours go with it.

Actually I think f&b Charleston grey would look amazing.

Current options that I think I might like (tester pots arriving tomorrow):

  • Whole wall (panelling and wall above) in Fired Earth Mockingbird (current cover above the divisive blue)
  • Panelling in a grey (various F&B shades ordered - light, mid and darks)
  • Panelling in a different shade of blue (worried about clash with the hall wall)
  • Panelling in an olive green (don't think I will like this but willing to try)

I am sure I am overthinking this but this whole bathroom has been a disaster and I just want it finished and looking nice before I tackle the other rooms.

As for the 'go white' that is what I am doing in the front sitting room. My dabble with Timeless is going to be covered in white. Only I can pick such an innocent widely loved colour and put it in a room where it crashes and burns.

Noooo you need to go warmer!

f&b moles breath or a plummy colour or f&b French gray

I'm not sure what the blue in the hall is, it was here before I moved in, hence it works, unlike anything I have arranged myself over the last 5 weeks

What is the blue in the hall? When in doubt, go white.

I don't think they compliment each other very well but I do love the blue - what brand/shade is it?

The floor would look great with dark grey on the panelling , white above and light grey towels etc..I love muted monochrome looks though.

Blue does look lovely as well but doesn't show off the tiles as much as another toning colour would .

ChallyCreaks · 09/08/2017 15:35

I'd brave it and paint a darker grey to match the tiles.
