Hello all,

I need some help with decorating my hallway. I have my decorator booked to come in at the end of Nov but am still unsure about colours!

I have a large Edwardian hallway which has a dado rail in the middle, original cor icing and dark flooring (laminate). It's currently got red on the bottom half and a mushroomy colour on the top and ceiling, it looks shit Grin but that's what the previous owners wanted! All woodwork and cornicing is white.

Our living room is mellow sage and I am planning on having f&b french gray on the bottom half and cornforth White at the top and ceilings. However Im unsure if I should have the ceiling a plain white rather than the same colour as the walls?
Is it going to look shit? Any other ideas? Should I paint the hallway half and half or paint it all french grey? Or shall I do the ceiling cornforth White and the top half a differebt shade of white?

I have some smokey pendants that are going to go up so I cwnt have the hallway too dark.
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Also would like some ideas on carpet runners...

Oh - I meant keep it light below the dado, the dado itself, the cornicing, ceiling rose and picture rail (if you have one) - we've done all of those in ivory white - then upper walls and ceiling in the FG. Dark below could be a little overwhelming unless hall gets a lot of daylight or has some dramatically coloured artwork.

Of course I understand, thanks for posting the pic. The only thing I was concerned about was that the french grey will darken the hallway too much if we do it above and below the dado rail but I suppose the ceiling will lighten it

If you don't mind, I'd rather not post mine, but the colours look similar to this sitting room - as you can see, the lighter colour really stands out well from the grey. And to this, in terms of seeing it in the narrow space).
I've also attached about the only photo I could find that shows off how the ceiling rose will stand out too.

Thanks for your replies!

So the general consensus is paint all of the hallway french grey and just the ceiling white? Moonlight is there any way I can see pics of your hallway? I am happy with a PM if you could be so kind?

I think I just need to make a decision and stick to it, have been looking at the f&b chart and quite like the look of lamp room grey...

I'd go white ceiling and french grey on the walls

The French Grey and Cornforth should work well I think. If the ceiling's high enough (and it looks as though it should be) I'd be inclined to paint the ceiling with FG too and leave the cornicing and ceiling rose white/ivory.

(Disclaimer, we live in an Edwardian too and have just done Dulux Ivory White for woodwork, cornicing, coving and original paper below dado rail, then done French Grey for above dado and ceiling so I may be ever so slightly biased. Does get more than a few compliments though.) I also can't remember if we went for mid or dark (think it was mid).
