Anyone else worrying about their summer holiday?

All this media coverage is really worrying me that our summer holiday will be cancelled.. this will be our first holiday in 5 years and I'm so looking forward to it. I know we're very lucky to be able to go but really worried the flight situation won't be sorted by then!

Anyone else worried?

We flew with Jet2 to Spain for half term from Birmingham, honestly it was not any different to the usual scrum pre covid. Only took 45 mins to drop bags and go through security.

We are flying next month with Jet2 to Tenerife and I’m not worried.

I'm so worried. Im off to America and need to test negative for covid 24 hours before. I've got such a bad feeling its all going to go horribly wrong.

Same here… we fly at the end of July and I feel like I just cant get excited about it knowing we have to jump this hurdle first! Really hoping they drop the test requirement soon 🤞

Pre-covid I would be worried because we would have booked all bits separately.

Post-covid though, due to all the travel risks I have booked a package with Jet2. I also have insurance. Therefore I’m not worried.

Dh on a green no fly mission so we doing a road trip to Italy staying in nice places he is being smug now!

Us too! I don't mind flying but hate airports. Plus we load up on food and booze for home. Feeling smug now as I often get pitying glances from the AI crowd about our Eurocamp holidays but we love them.

We're flying out of Gatwick with easyJet so keeping everything crossed it's ok!! I've told myself if it gets cancelled I'll just reboot for October but still making me anxious!

The problems seem to be mainly at Manchester airport and then cancellations mainly TUI and easy jet

That was the case but it isn't anymore. The cancelle BA flights are Gatwick and Heathrow.

Birmingham airport has been bad and there were long delays at Bristol too.

Went away for half term with BA - no issues with anything except having to go in the non EU queue which was super shit and made me very angry. Everything else was fine.

Currently in Spain with Jet2. Flew out of Bristol on the weekend, no issues at all at the airport.. a few cancelled easy jet flights on the boards, but jet2 have own staff and we left on time.

No issues in Spain upon landing either.

Very worried. Due to fly to Venice in three weeks for our family holiday with Easyjet. I have been checking daily to make sure the flights are still there!

We flew to Portugal at half term (last week) on Ryanair. There were no delays getting through security and our return flight even landed back early. It does seem to depend on the airline. I think it also depends on the airport. We flew from Newcastle.

I only noticed one flight which had been cancelled on the departure board from Faro and that was to Geneva. As other pps have said the media always concentrate on the worst scenarios.

Hopefully by the time you go the airlines will have sorted themselves out.

Yes going with tui in a couple of weeks and they have been cancelling whole holidays

We flew with EasyJet from Manchester last week and it did take nearly 3hrs to get through the queues (that's with security fast track) but other than that fine and a 2hr delay on way back but no issues with baggage, so it could have been worse.
I've spoken to more people recently who had an ok experience than a terrible one, so hopefully they are starting to get their act together.

Ah i completely understand. I've had 2 trips lately and was so worried but both trips were trouble free. The first was a Jet 2 package from Birmingham and the second was scheduled flights from Heathrow with no queues or problems at all. Hope all goes well for your family.

We have 2 weeks in Spain flying with easyjet and staying with my Mum who we've seen for about a week in the last 3 years so I will be royally pi$$Ed off it the flights get cancelled as they did twice last year when we tried to get over.

We have however just done a few days in Denmark flying from Stansted with Ryanair and it was totally plain sailing if that helps anyone's fears!

Who are you flying with and where are you flying from?

The problems seem to be mainly at Manchester airport and then cancellations mainly TUI and easy jet

We flew from Gatwick South recently with Vueling and was probably the best experience we've ever had. We flew through security, bag drop etc. Outbound flight was delayed slightly whilst waiting to take off (less than 30 minutes) but they made up time and we got to our destination earlier than stated.

Return flight, zero delays, airport was empty. When we arrived at Gatwick we managed to get through border control, get our bags and get back to the car (long stay south car park) in less than an hour.

Yes! Due to.go away in August, flights with easyjet... Keeping my fingers crossed things have improved by then, and feeling very sorry for those whose holidays have been affected so far.

Hmm we have BA flights to Spain booked and separate air bnb accommodation. I’m very worried about cancellations and especially with it having been booked separately. I only hope BA customer service is good and they run quite a lot of flights but I know they’ve done lots of cancellations at points too.

Yes I'm feeling a little concerned about our August holiday. Like so many other people our holiday to Italy was cancelled for two years so we are so looking forward to it. We are booked with Tui (as we have many times in the past). I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that everything gets sorted out by August!

Report
IamChipmunk · 07/06/2022 20:51

Yes! Really concerned. We go at start of Aug. Kids will be so upset if its cancelled.
We are flying with Jet2 though so as someone has already mentioned, im hoping that will help. We have also already booked fast track.
Will just keep fingers crossed!

We flew out last week, there was a long well organised queue for security and we were about 30 mins delayed overall. I’d say the vast majority of flights the same. The media love a horror story, try not to worry.

Report
Muchtoomuchtodo · 07/06/2022 20:47

Who you’re booked with will make a massive difference.
jet2 have their own check in staff and baggage handlers, so you only at the mercy of the security queues at the uk airports.
other airlines haven’t got this and are struggling more as a result

Report
liveeverysecond · 07/06/2022 20:45

@britneyisfree all the cancelled flights and utter chaos in the airports. Just concerned the flight will be cancelled and we won't get to go (I know there are bigger things to worry about)
