Any positive passport stories please?!

We applied online two weeks ago today (9th May) to renew our two daughters’ passports. DD1 is a child to adult renewal, hers went to Durham. DD2 is a child renewal, hers went to Liverpool.

Sent old passports by recorded delivery and they were received on 11th May in both offices. DD1 (Durham) is currently still showing as ‘send old passport’, DD2 (Liverpool) was confirmed as received last week and her birth certificate was requested. We’re less worried about hers as at least there’s been some progress.

Getting stressed about DD1’s though. We travel on 4th August, so still have some time, but there are so many horror stories, I’m starting to panic…

Anyone had quick turnaround with online renewals (especially keen on positive stories re Durham!).

Same as you with one child moving to an adult passport and the other a child renewal. I applied online and posted the passports without using recorded delivery. It took 3 weeks to get the new passports back.
Main problem I had was getting the online photos to work as my eldest's photo was constantly rejected no matter what we did so I had to fork out the £8 at a photo booth to get the digital code photo.

@MorePassportWoes does your child have a different name to you? Ours do, they have both mine and DP’s surname double-barelled. Wonder if this is problematic too?!

How do you know which office it's at? It does t tell me when I log in?

I did the application, I did the original application, nothing has changed but still had to send birth certificate, I sent it recorded delivery last week and it hasn't yet been uploaded.

Sorry, posted too soon, has anyone else had to send birth certificate (it was because DP did the application, apparently dad's don't automatically have parental responsibility so it has to be verified via birth cert!)? Just wondering about how long before it was uploaded and actioned?

Since my OP, we have now had DD1's approved (the one I was more worried about), but no movement on DD2's (after sending birth certificate which they requested end of last week). Spoke to HMPO today, told me to wait another two weeks and then they'll look into it. Apparently, it then has to go to the examiner...

Took just under three weeks for a child renewal at the Belfast office. Applied last week of April. Was nearly two weeks before the system showed the documents as having been received but after that everything was done very swiftly.

We’ve just done two child and one adult renewals (one with an admin error I had to correct too!) and they were all received within 3 weeks. It took over a week for them to acknowledge the old passport return with each of them. The system
is very slow to update.

12 days for a renewal for my daughter! Received it today after posting her old one off on the 10rh - they received it on the 12th. Her photo was rejected so had to submit a new one and it arrived in the post this morning. This was with the Liverpool office

Thanks @dementedpixie we thought so too but didn’t see anything in the book clarifying this!

Mine took 10 days via Durham this month

Can I jump on here and ask a question please? It might sound stupid…
dd is renewing her passport but it’s now an adult passport rather than her existing child’s passport.
The options are renewal, first child or first adult.
we are confused! We are renewing but it’s going from a child’s to an adults - which box do we tick?!

Its a renewal
First adult passport is for those who've never had any passport before

Sent off for a new child passport mid-April to the Bootle branch, it was being printed over the weekend so I expect it sometime this week.

@MorePassportWoes I think it’s because my partner did the application. He is my daughter’s father but we are not married so don’t know if that’s the reason or not!

Interesting to know you have been asked to provide a birth certificate for a renewal. There is nothing online that says you have to do this. I also have had to send the BC for a renewal.

I renewed 4 passports they came back 3 weeks ago. Each went to a different passport office they all took around 3 weeks even the ones that they requested additional ID verification.

Good luck

I just did an overseas adult renewal with Durham. It took them 17 days after signing for the recorded delivery of my documents to update the tracker to "documents received".

Apparently it isn't unusual for it to take so long for this part of the process to be done.

However, everything moved really quickly once my documents were in their system. I think less than a week until dispatching.

The whole process from application to receiving my passport took 5 weeks and that's including postage to and from France.

I was worried too having heard the horror stories but it was perfectly fine in the end.

Try not to worry.

I was told it would take ten weeks. It took about two. That was Glasgow.

Dd1s child to adult took just over 3 weeks. DD2s child to child was sent off 3 weeks ago. It took just over 2 weeks to update the tracker to say they’d received it. But a couple of days later it said it had been approved. Just waiting for it to arrive now.

Hopefully you’ll hear they have it in the next couple of days.

3 weeks for two adult renewals here. I got the confirmation of receipt of old passports about 4 days before confirmation of new ones being despatched. Both went to Peterborough!

Less than two weeks for a child renewal here 👍🏻- new child passport is admittedly taking longer but moving along…
