Las Vegas and New York hotel recommendations

My DH and I are looking at spending a few days is Las Vegas and New York early next year, flying between them. We quite liked the look of the The Linq in Las Vegas, although it looks quite party-ish so a bit concerned it will be full of hen and stag parties?! Also we've realised you can book smoking or non smoking rooms, not sure if a non-smoking hotel is a thing? We would like a very central hotel, with a casino, easy walking distance to the main attractions. Budget of £200 a night maximum.

New York seems vast and we aren't quite sure where to start, location is probably key. Recommendations needed please. Budget of £150 a night, could stretch to £200 if needed.

Thanks everyone. Cosmo is way above budget so we've ruled it out, although we'd choose it if budget allowed. Aria and Vdara seem good but struggling to decide which. MGM grand also looks good. We've ruled it the Mirage because they keep dolphins and tigers.

Haven't even started on the NY recommendations yet!

Came back from Vegas last week and would definitely stay mid strip- Cosmo, Aria, Linq all great locations rather than either end of the Strip. Cosmo was my favourite - quote plush though it's quite annoying to move in between areas. And it's achingly try-hard hip. But it has balconies and that's a big thing in Vegas.

I've stayed in The Linq in LV. We chose it for its central location and it's more affordable than the likes of the Bellagio, Caesar's etc, it's much more basic but after staying in Caesars the year before and hardly being in our room we accepted this and had more spending money when we got there as a result.

The Linq promenade is great for bars and restaurants and just off the strip - the pool at the hotel is definitely a party pool though so consider that if that makes a difference !

Iv been 3 times so suited my needs but maybe not for a once in a life time trip.

Also Ameritania hotel in New York is fab, near to Times Square but was fairly reasonably priced when I went. Enjoy!

We have been to Vegas a few times, we love the Aria, it is new and modern, but expensive.

Recently we have been staying at The Mirage, it's older, but smaller than some, very well located and has everything you need.

Club Quarters Grand Central in NYC. We stayed there in April. Fab location, in budget and free wine, cheese and snacks at 5pm every day!

The HGU in NY is amazing value - huge rooms and great location.

We stayed at the MGM in LV. It was alright, but it’s at the end of the strip. It’s more expensive in the middle.

We stayed at Citizen M Bowery in September and loved it. Rooms are small but have large super comfy beds, they've thought of everything so you barely notice the size. Worth paying extra for a room with a view. The roof top bar was also brilliant for a drink or two at the end of a long day/night. It's close to a number of subway lines so really easy to get around if your legs don't want to walk any more. China town and little Italy are a stones throw away with a massive selection of breakfast, lunch and dinner options if you don't want to stray too far at any point. We purposely didn't want to stay near Times Square as thought it might be a bit too "in your face", and touristy, and I think we made the right decision.

The cosmopolitan in LV is gorgeous and has balconies (many don't) which overlook the bellagio fountains. There is fabulous art and the restaurants are great. It's very central too. Stayed in a few LV hotels and this one is by far my favourite.

We stayed at The Conrad in NYC. It's a fab location, right by the WTC site and Freedom tower. We loved being able to look out of the window at the river, and it was a lovely walk down to Battery Park looking at the Statue of Liberty. The subway was a 2/3 minute walk, and generally it's a really nice area. Times Square is a shithole btw, it was so so disappointing.

Thank you everyone, keep the recommendations coming, it's really helpful. Will start looking at some of them on Trip Advisor.

Our current plan is Saturday - Tuesday in Las Vegas. Then an overnight flight Tuesday night. Wednesday - Saturday in New York.

There are far better hotels to stay in than the Linq; its noisy, old throughout and somewhat run down. Best thing about the place is their restaurant called the Hash House a Go Go otherwise there is really nothing else going for it.

There are non smoking hotels in Vegas and these include the Vdara and the Signature at MGM Grand (which are apartments attached to the MGM hotel and casino. This is both a non smoking and non gaming facility).

Internal flights in the US can also run expensive particularly on the weekends; try to fly midweek if possible.

Iv stayed at many hotels in Vegas and my favourite is the Aria. Good central location and lovely rooms and views.
In New York we stayed at the Knickerbocker. Might be a bit over your budge but have a look it's just off Times Square with lovely rooms and a rooftop bar.

I was advised to stay in LV mid week as it is much cheaper than a wknd. Americans go to LV for wknd breaks.

We stayed in the Lotte New York Palace. It was lovely.
We have also stayed in the Conrad for DH's birthday.

Rethink your budget as LV hotels are a lot cheaper than NY hotels. I haven't been to NY for 10 years so can't really recommend anywhere but for LV I would take a look at The Mirage as that's a good central strip location. Nice rooms.

I’m not sure how much these hotels would be Over the holiday period but they are very central and lovely.

Aria - very modern, plush, great service and I believe all rooms are non smoking. Young-ish hotel.

Cosmopolitan - beautiful. The artwork is beautiful in this hotel.

Wynne - not as central, but probably the best in Vegas. Pricey but opulent.

Also stayed at the Bellagio and Venetian. Dated I think.

NY is expensive so you might need to spend nearer the top of your budget. Very well reviewed is Citizen M, Times Square. As it’s central you will save on travel time to some sights. The hotel is fun.

No idea about LV. Hated it when we went and couldn’t wait to leave! We stayed at the Vdara because it had no casino and was close to the car hire depot.
