letting off steam ds sounds so ill its breaking my heart!

HI just letting off steam hope no one minds, ds (7 months) developed a cough about 2 months ago and we took him to dr after it went on for a while and she said just a cough nothing she could do anyway then about 3-4 weeks later we rushed him to out of hours surgery to same dr because he couldnt breath and was vomiting up all his food by coughing so much and wheezing bady she said it was infectiona nd gave him antibiotics so after 5 days he finished and he was no better no dr is saying its a viral infection and has given him an inhaler to tale untill it 'works its way out of his system' he hates this and were finding it really hard to get him to take it because its a mask over his maouth and nose and he gets reallt scared when we put it on, anyway now hes still wheezing like he smokes 40 a day and still coughing which makes him so upset its breaking my hearty but dr said to give the inhailer untill after easter then take him back i hate seeing him so scared and unhappy sorry rant over thanks...........

the walk in centre in sheffield will see under 2's, any age in fact maybe it depends on the area you live in

i think some children are prone to 'chesty' things charlee, my ds is/was. less so as he has 'grown up'

If you ring NHS direct, given his age, they will probably call an ambulance for him to get to a&e without the wait. my dt's had bronchiolitis and were in hosp, for a couple of days on oxygen.

thanks for your advice if he gets ad again i will take him to a&e and just wait its just frustrating hes always ill even before he got this broncholitius i just dont know why.......

don't think NHS walk-ins will deal with under-2s, Maisystar.

ds was admitted to hosp both times with bronchiolitis and given oxygen.

i would either go to your doc again and be very firm that you want a hosp app now, or go to your a&e armed with eveything you need to keep your ds entertained for as long as you have to wait, or maybe evn try another a&e dept if you have another local? or nhs walk in centre?

how awful - can you call the out-of-hours number and see a different doctor and ask to be referred to the paeds ASAP? Trust your instincts, Charlepeeters.

our a&e has a usuall min waiting time of 4 hours what ever time of day and in my time at the hospital has assured me most dr dont seem to give a damn sorry if thats harsh but the ones i have seem dont seem to sometimes......

yeah the dr told us it sounds like bronchiolitus but couldnt be sure if it continues shes going to refer him to pediatrics at our local hospital its just in his short 7 motnhs of life hes just getting one infection/cold/cough after another hes aleays ill what ever i do i cant work out why its so frustrating i cant even begin to get him into a routine because everytime he settles he gets ill its so upsetting because he look to me as if to say mum help me i feel ill and theres nothing i can do.

Charlepeeters, your poor ds. Take him for 2nd opinion. I'd be tempted just to take him to A&E to see a paed (at a quiet time of day, if there is such a thing...)

god this sounds so like bronchiolitis. my ds had it at 8 weeks old and at 2 years old.

can you see a different doc?
