Bleeding from anus.

Have name changed, as I like to keep my anus private.

For the past few weeks whenever I've passed a stool - no matter how soft - I've felt myself tear and have bled. A couple of weeks ago it was quite bad and kept bleeding for an hour or so afterwards and took ages to heal.

I thought it had healed over the past couple of days, but have just been to the toilet - I felt it tear again and bled again. It flipping well HURTS! Real burning pain when I go and a dull deep pain for ages afterwards.

Anyone had this? Does it eventually stop?

Well I stopped bleeding last week and healed up but still went to the GP this morning. She said it was probably just a small tear and to go back if it reoccurs.

Glad you're going. I'm the person who wasn't afraid to talk shit to her GP and my worse situation was still missed for a few months. Don't be embarrassed. It's not that bad. Just breathe deeply. We'll hold your hand if there's any more to it.

that being said, i'm one of those people who has no modesty at all when it comes to these things, having lived with a trauma doctor and later with a surgeon.

blimey, I'd ask for a ref, I don't think dh's was managed particularly well in general practice (even though they're fine for lots of other stuff)

I know Expat, but I just feel a little more comfortable with a woman atm and am guessing that I won't need a referal (I know, I know). I'm feeling a little vunerable and would much rather this just went away today.

just keep in mind that a female doctor may need to refer you to a male consultant, or you may be waiting a very long time to see a female consultant IF you need to see one.

I wanted a female doctor, that's why the wait. I don't feel this really warrants an emergency appointment. It's just pain, not life threatening.

could you get an earlier appt, sounds like the pain is awful and a week is a long time when you are in pain.

I've never had a vaginal birth but I honestly think that the pain I have is the same as my friend described crowning as. I have to bite on something to stop myself screaming and scaring DD.

I made DH go to A and E that night, I was horrified at the blood. He ended up getting them tied, he chickened out of the op to remove them, But it has never been as bad since they were tied.

Stool softeners/laxatives can be used to make the stool even softer and can be used without any constipation. Depends on the severity of the fissure, but may help with the healing process.
You wont be wasting gp's time.

Had a friend who was in the navy and had a fissure, needed surgery in the end. He was asked lots of questions by the medical staff.

anal fissures can become infected.

I am seeing a female doctor next week. Poor woman - I am her first appointment on Monday morning.

The blood used to literally pour out of Dh. One night I went up and he had left a trail from the door to the loo and the toilet was bright red. He had internal piles that bled every tinme he went to the loo. Really, I didn't know piles could bleed so much.

You don't have to be constipated or have exceptionally hard stools to have an anal fissure.

But if that is what you have, softer stools help it heal.

dh had to take lactulose too, even though stools weren't hard.

various creams - one to anaesthetise, another to heal it inside. and yes, we bulk-bought silicon gloves!!!

much better option than surgery (applies to only small % of cases) and took a few months. gp tried GTN first, but that gave dh headaches and did nothing.

you can even see the practice nurse or request a female GP.

Sounds like a fissure, you might be given something to make stools softer as anything hard may make fissure worse.

It sounds like anal fissure.

Eat cooked green vegetables every day, as they soften the stool.

Before you pass stool, smear anus (inside & out) with baby bottom creams. Afterwards, clean with baby wipes and reapply baby cream.

my friend had surgery to fix hers.

if these HUGE external piles don't go away after tihs baby is born, i'll be on the table next to you, blimey, cuz i want them gone and they've seen it all before.
