it doesnt seem to work anymore! Constant leaking.

Really love the mooncup and used to work fine for me but the last 2 periods it just leaked. Mainly the start of a period and the cup is certainly not full. Even cut the stem shorter so hardly any left. The holes arent blocked either so suction is no problem

Any ideas? Could it be my pelvic floor? Noticed today I could feel it move(drop) when I lifted heavy shopping bags.

really dont want to stop using it as it is fab when it works!!

The insteads are now listed on the site. Preorder only atm, due in the next fortnight.

If anyone wants to try one out, then I will do an MN trial thing where you bung me £1 for postage and I send it out to you

Heated if there is still a little bit of stalk then I would say no, you haven't cut it too far. Perhaps it is faulty, or is there a chance you got over enthusiastic with the scissors and perhaps snipped it elsewhere as well?

If it didn't leak in initially, then probably it isn't faulty - I would e-mail mooncup website for advice.

I only use washable liners, not pads, so they are only a little bit marked and I put them in with normal washing. If you use pads I think a lot of people soak/rinse them by hand, then wash either separately or with other laundry, possibly with nappies if you already wash nappies?

Hi Heated, I did the same and no leaks so must be me then!

Will order some of those reusable pads for during the night as seem a good idea! BTW do you wash them in the machine or how do you get it clean?

Spent some time last night cleaning the little holes at the side only to realise after filling it with water, that the MC has got a slow leak! Can't believe I've spent all this time faffing with positioning!

I cut the stalk down so it's comfortable & there's a little bit left to grip - so have I cut it too far or is it faulty?

I've never boiled my mooncup and it's held up fine with no softening or going all floppy.

pmsl at boiling willy

yep, just rinse and reuse, a la mooncup. hell, i never boiled the mooncup, why would i do any more with one of these?
if i happened to drop in a pile of shit i might thhin twice about sticking it right back up my fanwah, but otherwise... hell no. not a problem.

Flibbertyjibbet · 29/08/2008 23:49

Thats interesting to know. So you just wash and re-use the same one just as if you were rinsing and re-using a mooncup?

I suppose our fanjos are made to cope with a few germs eh? I don't recall dp boiling his willy between sessions

Report
BloodySmartarse · 29/08/2008 23:43

oh i totally wash and re-use my insteads.
after using a mooncup, it seems madness not to... they seem welll sturdy enough to cope with it!
so i use one instead thing per period.
a box of 24 should then last me 2 years.
seriously, they are MILES easier to use. ime anyway!

you can order any fairys you like through flame/flamesparrow/blueberryberet at bumfluff nappies ... they dont seem to be listed on the site, but just drop her an email or call and she'll sort you out no probs.

Hmm I keep wondering about mooncups and this thread has put me off again.
I do use washable towels though as i hate tampons.
I looked into 'instead' after flame mentioned it last week - but its a DISPOSABLE PLASTIC thing and they cost a farking fortune. Neither of which seems to go along with the mooncup mentality. Well, I reckon you could wash and reuse insteads but the manufacturers say no in case of infection. Well they would wouldn't they
I'll stick with my washable pads and the odd tampon for swimming thanks. (and an old nappy booster for night times).

WASHABLE LINERS:
HIGHLY RECOMMEND FAIRY HAMMOCKS (whoa, sorry for caps there) fairy hammocks from weenotions (will look up site and post link)
PERSONAL favourite is the black minkee topped liner with woolly back.
black=unstainable
minkee=soooo soft
bamboo inner=v absorbent
woolly back=breathable and therefore SO much nicer to wear all day.

what you people need is 'instead'
crap name, fannytastic product imo.
you can get it from mn's v own flame (or blueberryberet as she is currently monikered) as soon as she lists it that is!!
FLAME - get your arse into gear and order and list these instead things!
they are mooncups, only easier.
much easier
you dont do your back in trying to get the damn thing out
AND you can have blood-free sex with it in (in case anyone cares)
i LOVE mine.

Heated- good point re the boiling at it has made my mooncup also very soft and flexible and I seem to be able to feel it move if I lift something up heavy or squat. Think will email mooncup and see what their advice is.

Lollipop- washable liners? Where can you get those?

Katch re lumps I am 33 so not sure of it has got anything to do with ageing

if you get clots (sorry I know its really ewww), then it makes the cup overflow, always has ime. If it's not clots then no idea try emailing them on their website ???

onepieceoflollipop · 29/08/2008 23:19

Is there an option on the mooncup website to ask them? Interesting point re the sterilising method.

Heated · 29/08/2008 23:17

Hi Pickie, sorry you're having problems too, reading all the positive MC threads, I did think it was just me though!

Had a few leakage problems the first couple of months which I put down to just getting used to the mooncup, then a couple of really good months no problems which made me a complete MC convert and then gradually the leakage has got worse.

I've been thinking:
a) positioning
b) maybe boiling it every month to sterilise has made the mc too soft? It's a bit less rigid now
c) my pelvic floor is rubbish!

Those of you who use liners as a back up. Try washable ones for night time. I find they are no good for day time as they move around your pants a bit and get out of place. Fine at night with tightish knickers though.

Report
katch · 29/08/2008 22:58

Interesting about the lumps - I've noticed them too lately - are they to do with age (now 45)?

I still think a mooncup plus liner is better than all the hassle of tampons/ towels, I'm just a bit disconcerted at the evidence of going to the dogs/ ageing.

Also, I felt mooncup use was, in a small way, making up for all those disposable nappies I used.

Mine leaks on the first day of my period. I think it is because I can't get it in high enough early on as my cervix sits very low on the first day. (WAY TMI sorry)

Also the instructions say to have it sitting really quite low but I find it works better for me and is more comfy (and better held by my crappy pelvic muscles) if I put it a bit higher than recommended.

Mine leaks too at the beginning of my period, although there is blood in the mooncup, blood also seems to leak down the sides.

onepieceoflollipop · 29/08/2008 22:25

Nat1 in answer to your question there is some technical reason for the little holes, something to do with helping it to stay in place with in theory no leakage.

Imo a mooncup will hold at least the same as a super tampon - probably more. Even if you use a pad as well, either for reassurance on heavy days or because you really need it, you are still potentially cutting out the bill for the tampons.
