Piles - not going after suppository/cream

pinky987 · 02/09/2020 16:58

In July I started getting problems with what I think are piles. Told gp who advised use wet wipes, then told nurse who prescribed scheriproct suppositories and cream. This settled it a bit but then they were back to the same feeling in about two weeks.

I’ve now used the creams and suppositories for another week and whilst improved still uncomfortable.

I don’t have constipation at all but I do have ibs which is why I think I got them as using the toilet a lot. Gp advised to eat fibre, drink water etc and I do all these things.

Gp won’t make appointment for me to be seen as they say that there is no need however i just want my bottom to stop being sore

Any advice to get rid of these?

That sounds horrific Chab.
Hope you get some relief soon

It's bad enough without having just pushed a baby out. Take care

im 5 weeks postpartum and still suffering massively since labour!!! Exhausted all medications; creams, suppositories, two different gp prescribed laxatives, ice, baths. I am at a loss for how to make it stop hurting and bleeding when I go!

@seayork2020 thanks, today it’s feeling bad. Just a constant pain in my bottom.

Dh says a bath with Epsom salt helps

Can I join in too. I don’t have it as bad as some of you but I just had one pile that just won’t go away. It settles for a few days then comes back again. Sad

No, I just used a couple of inches in the bath too. Good that ice is helping - it'll cause the blood vessels to contract plus as you say numbing the pain.

Yes definitely remember to use those laxatives, co-codamol is notorious for bunging you up.

Hi Ouch

Thank you for your post.

It's good the site bath helped you. Did you buy a special kind of add on for the toilet bowl?

I was doing the proper bath thing but while it was ok whilst in bath it seemed to make it all tighter and more uncomfortable after.

Ice helps more I'd say, probably because it's numbing too.

Also got local anaesthetic gel (not sure it's that good) and now gp has done a script for strong co codamol. Just as well I have laxatives !

@BanalAnal ouch, and if you are needing morphine based pain relief you must be in bloomin' agony.

My GP told me to use frozen packs but personally I got more relief using hot/warm shallow sitz baths, 3 times a day. Have you tried this instead/in addition?

Can I join the haemorrhoid hell gathering from my seated position on a bag of frozen peas ?

Identical story to Bobisbored.

It's been a week of thrombosed pain now. Spent a day being assessed for the surgical option but strong discouraged by the consultant who said surgery is weeks and weeks of pain and this is likely to be a week only- but it is not!

So one week in, it's got worse, pain is worse and I can't really take the prescribed morphine due to need to drive kids to school (wincing at thought of the car seat)

I am struggling to function 😟 and pain makes me feel sick.

@bobisbored that sounds really painful. I sympathise as had one of those a few weeks ago but according to GP it probably burst so reason for lots of fresh red bleeding at the time (which is why I contacted GP) and I've been sore off and on since.

I'm waiting for a sigmoidoscopy atm (non urgent) but the Consultant who reviewed me initially over the phone suggested being referred for banding if they are problematic and reoccurring which appears to be the case with most people who get haemorrhoids. Maybe an option for you?

@pinky987 how are you feeling now?
I'm still in pain although it has improved. I ended up calling the out of hours GP and was sent to hospital. It was a thrombosed external haemorrhoid. They talked about surgery but decided against it. It has shrunk but still hurts inside. I'm using suppositories. I'm so fed up.

@ouchmypoorbum i got the impression whilst talking to her that she didn’t really understand how much pain and uncomfortableness it is causing me.

@ouchmypoorbum well she went to prescribe proctosedyl but then saw the dr who triaged the appointment had done a prescription for another type so said use that one but I don’t know what it is as prescription goes straight to chemist.

@pinky987 they should not be making you feel guilty, their role is to see patients who need examination in person after triaging via phone. I've been seen in person twice during lockdown.

Was it proctosedyl? This is what I was prescribed second time around.

@ouchmypoorbum well when I arrived I got told I shouldn’t have an appointment as during covid they are limiting people being seen Shock

She then had a look and said she could feel one inside and prescribed a different suppository and then advised I need to chill.

So I was not impressed particularly by that appointment but at least I got seen I guess

@pinky987 that's good to hear. Mine remain intermittently troublesome but nothing like they were before. I find regular walking helps and too much sitting definitely doesn't.

Hello fellow sufferers, I just wanted to second the sitz bath suggestion - a couple of inches of hot water in the bath will do the trick and I found it great pain relief. Also recommend (if possible with the pain levels you’re experiencing) massaging the area with oil, either during or after the sitz bath... Do it as often as possible!

A trick I learned to take pressure off is to hinge forward at the hips, lean on a counter or table top, relax your tummy and let gravity pull forward and away from on top of the piles, if that makes sense!

That’s awful, I have found it tough as due to Covid you can’t even go to a walk in centre to get another opinion. Thanks for the advice.
