Hi there, I randomly tested my urine a week ago and it came up as positive for blood, nothing else, instant panic thinking I've got kidney or bladder cancer now, seen my gp who sent off my urine n the results came back clear, no blood in my urine yet the dipstick and several dipsticks I've done remain positive for blood. I'm worried sick, I have to send off another two samples which will now be delayed due to starting my period yesterday. Anyone to help me? God knows I need help.

So happy I found you. I have had microscopic heamaturia for 2.5 years now. My GP said it could be cancer. Waiting over 8 months to complete all the tests. I had cystoscopy, CT scan and showed nothing. Was told it is not a bladder, it must be kidneys. I saw nephrologist who did lots of blood tests and said it might be nephropathy IGA but as long as I have no protein in urine, I will not get kidney biopsy to confirm it. Recomended yearly check for protein and eGFR. Then I saw another nephrologist who said it is not NIGA as I had no visible blood after infections but discharged me anyway with the same recomendations. I read everything on internet in regards to microscopic blood in urine and nephropathy IGA and have massive anxiety. Now I still have no symptoms but 3+++ on dipstick under blood line. I keep promising myself I bin the dipsticks but after a while I buy a new pack. t is driving me insane!! The only thing which comforts me is seeing other women with the same problem and no reason found for it. So thank you. I am 40 years old, quit smoking 14 years ago, nevver worked with chemicals.

I had cystoscopy and kidney ultrasound in 2017 which was fine - still have microscopic haematuria 2 years later which was discovered when testing for something else - highly regarded urologist couldn't be less interested and certainly wasn't recommending a re-test - I don't even give it one seconds thought - no point stressing about it.

@ruby666 did the lab show any blood. I sent 2 samples off, 1st one no blood 2nd did, but by time I got results of my 2nd I'd had my cystoscopy and kidney ultrasound. Both of which were clear. The guy who did my ultrasound looked at me n said have you had visible blood in your urine, I said no, n he said do you not know how common this is, he said even running upstairs can cause it. I'm now awaiting a 24hr urine but the microscopic blood +++ on the dipstick is still there. I've done huge amounts of reading on it and majority of the time no cause is found for it. I suffer health anxiety n I went through hell for a few weeks til I had my scans, alot of bladder n kidney cancers have risk factors, over 40 ( I'm 42) if you smoke, work with chemicals etc let us know how you get on.

@clastegra. I’m ok. A bit calmer now. Had scan yesterday. They said they couldn’t see a difference from the scan I had before. Just hoping they don’t call with different news. Feeling exhausted from the anxiety. Hope ur feeling ok x

I have this going on atm! Had a dull pulling sensation down below and a feeling like I couldn’t empty my bladder, microscopic blood on dipstick so got given a 3 day course of meds, that didn’t touch it so then given a 7 day course, urine test sent to lab shows nothing so now still stuck with these symptoms! Going back to the gp on Monday but worried sick tbh

Just got back from my final consultation n he said scans n cystoscopy showed no cancer. Phew , he's asked me to do a 24hr urine collection to like for minor things but nothing serious was found.
He said have you dipstick your urine again, I said no n I don't want to the sheer panic it has caused me this time.
I've had 3 weeks of utter worry, I'm still a little scared going for a wee just incase I now see blood but I'm hoping that will settle with time n I'll be able to pee normally without it being a worry soon xx

Hi op, I'm so pleased for you but I had no doubt you'd just be the same as me!

Nope no follow up.

Now as the other said throw away the dipsticks and don't give it a second thought! 😊😊

Are you young and otherwise well?

If your tests are all negative, there's no need for any recurrent monitoring.

And throw away the dipsticks!!!!!

@tanfastic had my cystoscopy and kidney ultrasound and all clear, phew. This Dr today said it's very common and that you can get it from running up n down stairs. Feel so much better now. Do you have to see your GP for any ongoing tests ie bloods or BP or urinalysis? Just wondered if that's it now n I can forget it xx

Mine was a very cold man, didn't reassure me at all. So glad I have this thread to help me. Nothing he said seems to tally with anything I've read. I had a complete meltdown in the clinic, he said we'll all patients aren't text book n hes got a 23yr old with it. I was very shocked and very worried. This thread is keeping me going, I read it over n over. Thank you all XX you are really helping me xx

Not saying I disbelieve you op btwI. Just astonished as I had a completely different experience when I saw one. He completely put my mind at rest and that was before I had the tests.

Only one kidney would be involved? I find this very hard to believe any urologist would scare you like this.

Report
Tanfastic · 02/02/2019 21:13

I don't know who you've seen but that's absolute rubbish! 20% maybe that it's something but not 20% it's cancer! Who did you see?

Report
Clastegra · 02/02/2019 11:08

Just got back from seeing private urologist who has scared me a lot, said 20% chance it's something, said it's very worrying. I have no symptoms, only microscopic haematuria. Got me in for private scans on Tuesday. Please help me if you can, feel like I've already been diagnosed n it's a living hell. All the research I've done and threads I've read suggest no where near 20%, he couldn't feel any masses, said hopefully if it is anything only one kidney would be involved. Drove home a jibbering wreck.

For a start at least three or four people on this thread who had microscopic blood in the same position as you have had nothing wrong with them. Try and take some comfort in that.

You've just got to focus on it being highly unlikely that it's anything sinister. If you think a out it, out of 100 people with micro blood and 99 people having nothing wrong with them.....well you are going to be one of those 99 people. These are the stats so please try and put it into perspective. The tests are just to rule it out. They won't take a chance on the 1%

Hi no no other symptoms, just remember my wee looking a bit cloudy but I had been very unwell with cold and then severe diarrhea so probably not much fluid in me, I thought I'll just check my wee n bang it was there, n hasn't left, been there 2 weeks now. Had my kidney blood results back and all within range. Just hope these scans don't show cancer, I suffer so much with health anxiety, it has taken over my life since finding blood on that dipstick. X
