Hello, I'm new to Mumsnet but just wanted some advice please.
I'm looking for a new bed for me and my SO and my youngest. I saw the perfect drawer/divan king size in Argos and I was all set to buy it, and another bed too, but I've stalled.
I have a relative that I keep in contact with on Facebook. He got an infestation of bedbugs after buying a second hand book, believe it or not. I was shocked because their house is always spotless.
Anyway, this got me researching bedbugs and how they are spread and from what I've read, one of the ways bedbugs are spreading is via delivery lorries. The eggs or the bugs themselves contaminate the lorry and whatever goes in, comes out of the lorry contaminated.
So I investigated the delivery process used by Argos and I was horrified to learn that they pick up old mattresses (for a charge) using the exact SAME lorry they use for delivering new beds.
So, potentially a bed I ordered could be stored inside a vehicle directly next to a bedbug infested mattress ready for disposal. Eggs from this could get onto the packaging of my new bed and I could hypothetically bring an infestation into my home. It's a huge red flag.
I looked at Tesco's and even John Lewis and I was willing to pay more for John Lewis but I was surprise to find they also use the same vehicle for picking up old mattresses and delivering new ones.
Is it me? Personally I think it's a recipe for disaster and it's just a matter of time before someone gets an infestation this way.
This only leaves me with the option of buying a frame and mattress from somewhere like IKEA. I just hate the thought of all the assembly.
Has anyone got any ideas? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for listening.
