HELP! anyone know what red rash white spots are?

appeared on ds last 15 minutes (NHS direct to call back er, 2 hours or so)

red patches, mainly neck, bit of forearm, small bit on leg w/ raised white spots..

he seems fine, not eating much but chuntering away as normal..
?chickenpox? something else?

hey guys!

..he's much better (rash is alot less and seems to come and go!) but ...he's full of beans as ever...me,..well, am nervous wreck!
had real lazy day to recover!

the nhs folk did get back, sooner than stated suppose they cover themselves...they were useful as it saved a nightmare trip to a&e..
she said sometimes colds can end in rash as virus works it's way out of body..i of course had imagined i had 45 minutes to find the cause before disaster strikes!!...
Dh rolled in from work at 9.45 (its round the clock at his place at the moment) with this priton syrup, ds strangely woke up then and of course refused to take it..bit more calpol and we all got a nights sleep..

...boy, was shattered this morning...hence lazy day..

got a few dabs on but the protests of put it back mum, it was really wasnt worth the stress for him or me...

doesnt like what he doesnt know poor lad!

yeh, the ol face muscles can laugh a bit now too...crikey i do so repect medical peeps who can keep calm...was such a bag of jelly earlier!!

needed to get some perspective on it asap iykwim..just got real shock when saw rash and of course worse case scenarios are my speciality...

he's asleep now..i keep checking him like newborn and at least i should have the syrup at home incase...

i probably could wake him but would like to dh to help...and keep my nerves from fraying anymore....

the nhs people were good when on phone its just all this waiting and someone will call within 2 or 3 hours stuff...

if you feel the need wake him up to give him the piriton when dh gets home at least he'll sleep and you'll have peace of mind (can I have a piece!)Have a large gin and tonic and take the weight off!

i meant good idea to ring a&e! which i did..also nhs direct got back at last and took ages going through symptoms which was good
(expecting a friend to show up was just freaking on my own!! )

they mentioned the syrup dh getting some on way home...i think it is heat rash ! or end of throat coughing thing can result in rash sometimes..

he's okay..wont take calamine lotion but did have some tea story and bed..
think it was entertaining to him to see me panic

no don't give pills you can buy piriton over the counter at the chemist , you won't do lo any harm bundling them up and nipping out to local chemist - some open until 7 and there is always the supermarket chemist - bugger nhs direct if the ring when you're out just ring them back

Hi have read thread completely agree re. urticaria and the effing nhs direct, try ringing your local A&E and asking to speak to the paediatric nurse on duty

Ds had hives a while go. Official name is urticaria. It was quite scary as I had no idea what it was. The patches seemed to come and go all over different parts of his body.

We eventually took him to A&E and they prescribed piriton (or similar) and it cleared it up over the next few days. They said it could be food, a plant or anything - and could be from an hour ago to several days' ago. We hadn't fed him anything different and he hadn't been anywhere different. It was a complete mystery to us.

Oh - and he was completely well in all other respects. He didn't scrath the patches, but the paediatrician was very surprised as she said it would have been extremely itchy.

he's had cough since weekend..at docs yesterday and she said swollen red tonsils no cold drinks / food...could they have noticed it then???

Doesn't sound very much like chicken pox to me - chicken pox spots are red, not white. They start like red pin-pricks then turn blistery.

Give piriton, sounds like allergic reaction (hives) if piriton gets rid of it you know what it was!

Hives is like a nettle rash. Usually the skin is red with white raised lumpy spots which is why I thought it might be an allergic reaction.
