I've been to the GP a lot, and still no real answers, so turning to you wise MNers for your experience which might help me work this out and maybe go back to GP with some suggestions.

Here are my symptoms, if they are in fact symptoms:

Tired all the time (though I only get 4-6 hours sleep a night)
High blood pressure
Dizzy spells (though have reduced lately since medication for blood pressure)
I have two fibroids, and heavy periods and bad cramping every month mostly in my lower back.
Overweight
Aching clicking joints all the time, from neck right down to feet.
What I can only describe as "baby brain" but I'm not pregnant. Forgetful, fuzzy headed and can't concentrate a lot of the time.

I'm mid forties. Oh, and I've been blood tested for diabetes and thyroid and hormones, which apparently are all fine. I'm not even perimenopausal. I'm also not depressed. I do have a fairly stressful life but don't want the doctor to pin this as the cause instead of actually figuring out what is wrong.I eat plenty of fresh veg, meat, etc. and a penchant for cakes

Thanks in advance Smile

Aren't iron & ferritin slightly different? No idea why I think that!!

The most common test for anaemia is a full blood count, which measures the levels of haemoglobin in the blood. This, in turn, indicates iron levels. A normal result isn’t always conclusive though, and patients with normal haemoglobin levels may be in the early stages of developing anaemia. This is because the condition develops gradually with the earliest indicator being low levels of ferritin. So a ferritin blood test can give an early indication of iron deficiency anaemia in cases where a haemoglobin blood test comes back with a normal result. It’s only when lack of iron is severe that haemoglobin levels are affected.

I copied this from the boots website

If you can afford £28 you can get a Vitamin D test through the post betteryou.com/vitamin-d-testing-service. Using that link you then get a free Vitamin D spray if your levels are not sufficient.

There are Vitamin B12 tests available via post too but I am not sure what the cheapest is.

Buntythelizardqueen - I'm under investigation for fibromylgia & seeing rheumatoid consultant in 10 days.

Last year my anemia was so low & no supplements were helping; I was signed off work by haematologist and given 2 iron transfusions. Whilst off I still had to walk our dogs so although I felt lousy and was walking through treacle; it did give me a reason to go out for a walk.

Anyway basically I never felt an awful lot better, my hands starting feeling really painful. I was having regular checks and blood tests at gp and they found inflammation. They thought it could be rheumatoid arthritis so referred me to consultant.

Fast forward 4 months and my hands still hurt as well as now my hip joints. I feel like I've been beaten up, everything is so painful, it's like the flu without the runny nose.
I'm still very tired and achy. Back at work although have to have frequent rests & on regular pain relief. Best thing for me has been to buy an electric blanket which helps soothe the pain and bruising like feeling.
I still have headaches esp behind the eyes, fatigue, joint & muscle pain, itchy & painful burning sensation on skin, sensitive to light and sound.

The last few blood tests my gp did showed no inflammation to indicate RA & suspects consultant will diagnose fibro. I've seen a physio a few times who still thinks RA but the more I read up on fibro I tick nearly every box.

Best of luck you get a quick answer
x
