Spot on breast - should I have insisted on a referral?

Hi, I recently noticed a red spot on my breast. It developed into a bite like mark and is now healing and turning white. I saw my GP and he wasn't overly concerned as its on surface. However I have a strong history of breast cancer in my family (mom had it age 37) and her sister has had too at young age. I am around the same age. Should I have insisted on a referral? I feel reassured but am generally a worrier when it comes to my health. Any advice would be appreciated.

If you have a strong family history you should get your GPto refer you to the Genetic Councilling Team. that way you will have frequent check ups.

Re the spot. Just keep an eye on,it and go back if still concerned in a couple of weeks.

In that case I'm glad I posted! It's stupid but I'm afraid to self exam as I know I'm high risk. But I force myself most months. I really need to get over my fears. Thanks all.

You're probably fine, just keep an eye on it. I suddenly feel the need to do a self exam Hmm

Ps I should have said that it's not like a normal pimple or bite mark as it doesn't have the centre point. There is also some bruising around it. However it is healing like a bite would so hopefully it is just that

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'm paranoid about anything to do with my breasts. I'll keep an eye on it but good to know it's not that unusual.

It's easy to see why you're anxious but you've said yourself it is healing now. Just keep an eye on it, give it a few more days and it will have probably gone all together.

If it makes you feel any better I get spots almost weekly on my boobs. They aren't anything to worry about.
