Night sweats...

Anyone know why I might be getting these? Waking up at 4/5am literally dripping with sweat Confused They started occasionally while I was pregnant, then happened every night while I was breastfeeding, but I stopped that nearly 5 months ago and I'm still getting them several times a week. Am 32 and on the pill. The room isn't particularly warm, and not sleeping under any massive quilts...any ideas?

I had the same summer with the oestrogen withdrawal, found changing to a different pill (Qlaira) sorted the headaches, but wonder if it could be causing the sweats still? The sooner DH get's the snip the better!

Make sure you aren't getting any unnecessary 'ups and downs' by taking your pill exactly at the same time.

I was surprised at how it stopped after stopping the pill - I was expecting to be thrown knee-deep into the middle of perimenopause (which I have but not in the way I expected Hmm ) and have flushes and sweats day and night!

Hope the doctor comes up with something

Just to update - been to the docs. She did a very thorough "once over" including my blood pressure, listening to my heart/ chest.

Have been back for bloods, urine & chest x ray. I phoned for results of my blood/ urine tests on Monday & told that urine result all fine but that there is something from my blood test that they want to see me about (non urgent though). I have an appointment tomorrow morning for a review of this & hopefully my chest x ray results.

Will post more after this. Any update from you LadySnapcase?

One other thing it could be - is a reaction to anti-depressants (if you are on them). I had the same thing and got in a huge state about it/had endless tests. Finally, they concluded that that was the reason. Is a very rare, but nonetheless 'on the list' side effect of some anti-depressants.

Watching this thread with interest too. I have been having them too for over a year now. I started taking anti depressants and a couple of months after I started getting the night sweats.

I've been twice to the gp and had blood tests done and the only thing that came up was that I was low in iron.

The doc said thT fluoxetine is the tablet they give to people who suffer from night sweats when they can't have hormones so it's weird. I do think mine are linked to my cycle.

Frustrating not to know what it is.

Hello again everyone. Made it to the GP's today, he had a listen to my chest, prodded my lymph glands etc and has requested some bloods. Got a bit of a 'you should have come sooner' frown when I said how long it had been going on Blush but said that as I'd not had any other symptoms since they started it probably wasn't anything serious. Bloods should take a week to come back, anyway. Also got a free smear thrown in too, since I was due they decided to kill two birds with one stone, yippee Sounds like your GP was very thorough Aberchips Smile Hope your results are helpful!

I've been on antidepressants (fluoxetine too actually Marilyn) before, but don't think I had any then...not that I remember much of that whole period mind...

Summer I do take it roughly the same time every night (usually between 9.30 and 10.30, depending on how long I can stay awake Smile) Personally I do think it's related to my hormones, it's happened both on and off the pill though so bit of a mystery!

I get this sometimes; getting rid of the foam mattress and buying an ordinary pocket spring helped a lot, but it still happens.

Marilynmonroe - Fluoxetine is what I was on and was definitely found to be the cause of my night sweats. I really dug deep and saw specialists. Apparently it is a known - if rare - side effect. Ultimately I decided to keep taking the pills as the night sweats were preferable to the blues...

That's really interesting. Has your sweating improved since you've been on fluoxetine or remained the same? I'm with you. Would rather have them than the low moods.

This is interesting...has anyone whose sweats started whilst on antidepressants found that they carried on after stopping them, I wonder? Because now I'm trying to remember when mine started exactly...

(Also agree they would be an acceptable trade-off if I was still needing the AD's...)

I've never been on ADs and though I can't remember exactly when they started I'm fairly sure I've had them since I've been off the pill.

I posted up thread but have namechanged since

And by "them" I mean night sweats...

Hi again - had my review appointment which was fairly inconclusive Confused. All my bloods were normal (the one the receptionist mentioned was a liver function one which was a low result, but doc said it's not a problem for that to be below average. Everything else was pretty much slap bang in the middle of the "normal" ranges, e.g. thyroid, diabetes indicators etc. Chest x-ray was clear as well.

She said the only other route to go down at the moment was doing further bloods for hormonal levels, but as I'm not reporting any other symptoms at the moment then she doesn't think it's worth doing. She did say to come back if they continue as much, or if my migraines get worse though.

On the positive side, the sweats do seem to have subsided a bit recently, which makes me wonder if they are to do with hormones (recently switched to the mini-pill from combined as I was concerned about staying on the combined pill with getting so many migraines). Also at least I know that pretty much I'm reasonably healthy so it has set my mind at rest. the other nice thing is that I never once felt like I was wasting anyone's time so I'd definitely say, if you're concerned about something like this, go & get it checked out.

Hi Aberchips...good to know there's nothing sinister going on then, but shame there's no real answer! I have a feeling I'll be in the same boat when I get my results (should be friday). I could possibly push for hormone tests given my family history of early menopause, but I still doubt it's that since I have no other signs. Will see what the GP says.

And sympathies on the migraines, I get them occasionally, they're horrible...
