Just wondering if you have a wonder healthy snack which is on a par with chocolate???

I was just wondering, as I reached for my second kitkat of the day, does anyone have a wonder snack, one which tastes as good as say a chocolate bar or bag of crisps which doesn't leave you feeling full of guilty calories?

Something which would be perfect for you just to grab whilst DD is on a mission to not go to sleep or be put down, so you really don't have the energy or enthusiasm to make something? Please don't say a piece of fruit or a yoghurt, whilst these are great they really don't scratch that 'indulgence itch'

Agave nectar, honey, sugar, glucose, fructose, all "sugar", but then Rice, potato, grains, also "sugar"... Carbohydrate, all forms of carbohydrate are sugars, and we would do well to limit our intake!

If you're craving chocolate why not have one piece of really decent dark chocolate which you can leave to slowly melt on your tongue, or even a mug of hot chocolate, which will fill you up and warm you up at the same time. I must say if I want chocolate, the sugary milky kind rarely satisfies me, I'd much rather have a posh florentine or something very rich which I can savour.

If you like coca cola bottles, try the Nakd cola infused raisins, they taste just like them! Going to try the Nakd bars now too, after all the recommendations on this thread.

Footle. Agarve nectar is one and half times sweeter than sugar, so you need less and it has a low GI.

I mash a ripe banana with a cup of oats, form into little bite size balls and bake for 15 mins. Sweet, filling and nutritious.

sunflower/ pumpkin seeds mixed together. Put into a frying pan (no oil). Gently toast, then when they start to crack take off the heat and mix in a couple of drops of light soy sauce.

I'm a convert to Nakd bars. All natural, love the choc orange one.

For my choccy fix I blend a block of silken tofu with a couple of teaspoons of cocoa powder and a squirt of agave nectar to sweeten it or you could use any sweetner.

It tastes very indulgent but is healthy.

A great replacement snack for crappy choc and biscuits is really good dark chocolate - its low sugar and high in antioxidants, and the strong coco hit means you won't overeat it!

Aldi does a really good one, moser Roth 85% which comes in 100g pack divided into 5 mini bars- only 5.4g carb/sugar per bar and very satisfying.

Freeze a banana then blend it and add a spoonful of Greek yogurt. Ok maybe not ideal in this cold weather but come the summer it's a great fix.

Wispa ice cream bar. They are even more chocolaty than chocolate, but only around 130 cals.

*frozen not froze

And salted pistachios - scrumptious and better for you than crisps but still with the saltiness

Ooh froze grapes are just the dos bollocks too!

Give them a quick rinse, pop in the freeze and then they go all frosted and pretty and they taste so good - better than sweets and way better than grapes normally taste (and I am a grape fiend at the best of times!)

Red ones are the best I think. Oh and don't let them defrost. Because then they go soggy and horrible!

These are amazingly good, I eat them really slowly and you get that chocolate orange hit but with only 135 cals per bar, good for you and no sugar either.

I actually prefer them to cadburys and equal to Lindt Blush

For the record, the plain cocoa and the cocoa mint are both good, but not in the same league as the cocoa orange!

thank you snice, - they look really good - I'll have a go at making them tomorrow Smile

oh and I agree with some of the comments on the recipe that you need to slice them a bit thicker than they suggest and v.lightly grease the baking paper or they stick and burn

Dried mando is great, personally I love crackers and cheese (but rack up the calories with them)

snice - what temperature oven and for how long? - they sound nice Smile

How calorific is liquorice? would that be a good substitute?

If you like chocolate though, I would have just one square of really good dark chocolate a day - supposed to be good for you anyway, so you don't have to feel guilty Grin
